BTW, Won't people EVER stop steryeotyping Petsmart (and "PetCo") employee's sure their are some that suck. But some are very knowledgeable and are their to help.....(Fry/babies are free because they cannot add fish into inventory, the guy that was rude was mearly self-fish)

What a day I had....First luckily I discouraged a guy from buying a heat rock for his Leo. But then it got worse.

I sold :(sadly one Tiger Barb ,Platy ,Black Skirt Tetra when there were no other fish in the tank.

Then TWO GOLDFISH for what? a BOWL warned those two teens that 25%+WC Twice to Three times per week (Hell that's not even enough since they need at least a 20gal and that's pushing it)

Plus, I was to slow to stop a guy from getting 5 Neon Tetras for FEEDERS.
(BTW, those that are like "What's wrong with that?") It's against policy...Hope his fish Dies that'll teach him to feed live muhahahaha......

Okay my everlong rant is now over:chillpill::chillpill::chillpill:

Most of those petsmart and petco employees you here about aren't very brite and it's beyond true that alot of them don't even know what a cichlid is that's the reason they are stereotyped because most of them don't have the knowledge to work in the pet stores they work at. I have found very few employees that are actualy smart enough to help me. I'm still learning alot about fish and if you think that means I have no room to talk it doesn't I have researched a heck of alot more then you think and even though I have little experience I'm still able to give people good advice on at least the basics. The very few employees that I have found have tanks no bigger then twenty gallons with a few tetras at most yet they are able to do there job very well. Out of all the employees that I have dealt with no matter what section of the store they work in I have only met 6 out of over 50 employees that were able to give good costomer service and true facts about the animals they were keeping.

Example:

I walked in to a petco to see 3 people hovering around the ferret "enclosure" I guess you could call it, and all of them were talking/incorrectly handling the ferrets. I walked over and picked up a ferret out of the enclosure and imediatley the employee questions me asking if I'm eighteen why I had even touched the animals and so on. I ignored most of the ignorant questions he rambled on about and answered simply. "No I'm not eighteen I'm twelve, I have 2 ferrets at home both of which I raised from kits and I would prefer it if you'd stop talking to me like I'm some little kid." That shut him up. The couple that continued to miss handle the young ferret asked loudly. "Can you litter train them?" the employee answered. "Yeah, but you don't have to they will just go where ever you put the litter." He thought he was smart, I butted in. "Actualy they naturaly go in the corner so a corner littler pan is a good start but the ferret can move it wether it is screwed to the side of the cage or not. Alot of patience is good when training them." The smile imediatley fell from his face as the couples attention turned to me. I reached over and corrected they way the man was holding the ferret. He had been holding him right infront of his back legs squeezing just a little to hard for my likeing but apparently he didn't know. "Hold the animal right side up and he'll stop trying to bite you." I told him. The man said that he was told by the employee that the ferret was only "Playing" the blood dripping from his hands begs to differ. The employee saunters off as I give the couple some real advice on owning a ferret. They tell me that apparently they had wanted a ferret for a little over a year and were thankful that some one with actual ferret experiance came up and gave the advice. I saw them a week later with a two story cage, high quality ferret food, and a young calm ferret that they had chosen just moments before. I walked up and talked to them awhile they told me that they had complained to the manager and the employee giving them bad advice had been fired. Serves him right.

End example.

I'm 14 now and have sence sold both of my ferrets and a female I had aquired a year earlier to a good old animal lover with all the right meens to take quality care of them. And that above is just one of the millions of reasons why petco/petsmart employees are steryeotyped.

uhh i believe 12 is still some little kid, and the above is why I don't like dealing with most young customers (ahh stereotypes work both ways). there are ways to go about correcting and helping without coming across as an arrogant punk and well most kids just haven't figured that out.

and there are just as many customers out there who like to hand out bad advice to fellow customers as there are employees. i can't stress this enough if you go into a conversation like you're better than someone and expect them to be stupid you're probably not going to get anything positive out of it regardless of the employee's knowledge.

makes plenty of sense why they question a 12 year old little kid when it comes to touching the animals in the store, for many reasons, such as liability/safety concerns. at the stores I worked at years ago, a 12 yr old little kid would need a parent present to handle an animal at the store, or buy an animal of course.
