i dont work in an lfs but i love it when noobs insist they are right like in an lfs by me one of the guys i know who works there had to tell this woman that an oscar would not live in a 10g and she insisted she had friends who were 'fish experts' who told her it could. Anyway she got soooooo anoyed when he wouldnt sell it to her and started ranting about how they sold poor quality clown fish which died as soon as you got them he asks her what the salinity and size of the tank are and she says "what do you mean by salinity" and he says how much salt do you put in she just looks at him really strangely and he explains about how they need salt, but she still insists that they can be acclimatised to freshwater and just leaves.

That womans retard. AND CHEERS FOR THE LOOONGEST RUNON SENTENCE EVER!!:ROFL::ROFL::headbang2

at a local LFS, i did the following when purcashing my baby L190's

-waited over 1hr for the owner to come back, some illiterate immigrant was watching the shop (owner never did come back)
-netted my own fish out of their tank
-calculated the sell amount for my 3 plecos INCLUDING TAX!
-told the employee how much change i needed to be getting back
-counted change for him.

i mention no race of this illiterate employee nor LFS location out of fairness and in the sense of strictly saying this to share a story. the shop is actually very well-reputed. Great selection

i was amazed at how much i had to do as a customer though.
the only thing i didnt do was bag my fish (which i could have done myself no problem)

working in an LFS as a teen who was then very avid about the hobby, im pretty picky nowdays with how LFS are run.

maybe talk to the kids mom and tell her as politely as possible to keep an eye on her son, tell her that you are concerned for the child's safety. if that doesn't work would it be at all possible to move the eel to a tank out of the kids reach?

I'd probably be fairly direct with her about it. Control the child or please leave. The lost revenue from the few things she buys if she never comes back is nothing compared to a potential lawsuit.

Person reading over shoulder says to get a Volitan and let him try with it. Kind of cruel but at the same time, I wonder if that would teach him.

Good idea about the signs though. That way, you can ask them to leave if something were to happen and, if he were to kill one of the fish, I believe she would have to pay for it but the animal would still lose its life. :(

This was my first time "meeting" him, although most of the employees know about him. His attention is not only the fish, but he will pull down shelves of dog toys or stuffed animals and lay on them, or we have these plastic animal figurines, he will just swipe his arm over the shelf and knock them all off. I was told that they have asked his mom to keep him supervised, and she apologizes and gets mad at the kid, but she never does anything about it. My very blunt manager was told about the incident last night, and I was told to let her know if there are any more incidents and she will take care of it. I guess that's the best I can do.

Unfortunately we have these dumb fish systems, and the biggest tanks are on the bottom, small ones on top, the eel won't fit in the top ones. I'm considering a lionfish or stonefish for the bottom tank though...hmm... :naughty:.

2 words.. "Electric Catfish". Problem solved.

Stonefish is no good cause he can get really hurt or die from that. A good jolt from an electric cat will just knock him on his butt though and teach him a valuable lesson. :grinno:

"Heeere fishy fis..zzzZZZzzzttt..."

Could leave a cattle prod on the shelf with the pet toys too. I was dumb in my youth and grabbed one of those off a pet store shelf not knowing what it was. I never grabbed anything without checking it again. :)

i work at the LFS because it supports this hobby lol
i had one guy come in and ask for a Chiclid. the the one guy in a tank of about 30 picks one single fish out so i continue on saying "Alright no problem" i keep trying a minute goes by and i finally catch the little guy. As soon as i caught the Fish the ******* old guy slams the cabinet on my shoulder and said "I DONT WANT IT ANYMORE!". so being nice i said OK i will put the fish back in the tank. Then he walks up to my Boss and said he took forever to catch the fish. my boss told him It happens get Used to it. interesting day at the Fish store lol and then later on i baught the same very fish he wanted so i knew if he came back there was no way he was getting it LMAO

^Buy your own tank^
I had a guy with a Black Belt, Salvinii, and an Oscar in a 55gal. When I told him he was overstocked he replied "with only three fish?!!?" I told him three fish that get very big and have a high bioload.(Don't think he believed me)

Im 15.. now Im just surfing the web looking for a fiberglass tank and hopefully my dad will buy one.. If he doesnt i'll have to pay a part of it...

why not install something that SPEAKS? something out of sight when the kid comes hey fishy fishy! Then comes a scary sentence or something maybe that will send him shouting MUUUMMMMYYYY

Short story, so this woman comes in saying shes resetting up her tank. I ask her if she has a filter, air pump, nets, decorations, hood, etc. she said she just needed the hood. I said "ok, oh yeah. also youre going to need a heater. do you have one?" she just stares at me blankly and askes "whats a heater?" i was just like "...it heats the water" i dont get how someone could not understand the concept of a heater

I was in Petco this morning and heard an almost identical conversation.

Lady: "I'm setting my tank back up and want some guppies"
LFS: "Do you have all the equipment you need? Lights, Heater, and other stuff?"
Lady: "What's a heater? I have a filter."
LFS: "It would be another cord that gets plugged in. Looks like a glass tube."
Lady: "Um, I think so. Is it inside the filter?"

:screwy:

Are you sure you don't work at the Petco in South Reno, NV? :grinno:
