I don't know for sure, it just looked male to me in the pic.I bought 2 several yrs back(as females) that looked like it ,but they turned out to be male.
even i was originaly onboard with the male gues. the fish had tons of spangling throu out the body. it has always had the semi darker upper dorsal but so do some of my males and ive detemined that isnt always a dead give away. i put a divider in my largest festaes tank and put him her in and in a matter of 20 minutes it was clear what she was. tank is 110 gal 5 foot long 24 tall. my male is a solid 13+ inches pure beast. im going to say shes 8 inches or so. thought smaller until i caught her, shes nice even out of the water. sorry for the following pics there from my cell. i have nice shots i took with my cam but for some reason my usb to camera isnt working. gonna try to upload the sd card in another computer. heres a few shots
another observation over the years i noticed too, ive looked at thousands of festae pictures as im sure you all have. there has never been a female ive seen that doesnt have a broken Y bar. thats why i was so sure mine was male too. then i put her in and now the Y bar is blotchy when it was flawless before. looks like her bar will also have a break in it.
