finally getting some senegal poly's

I would give them some hiding spots. My little sen used to like to hang out in fake plants resting, near the top...I would give them some wood or caves to hide in, and some fake plants or similar to hang out in.

As for substrate, yea bare-bottom is fine. Personally I lost a bichir to what was likely eating a piece of gravel, so I will never do gravel with bichirs again. If sand isn't an option BB is best IMO.

what should i do for hiding spots? something that leaves me able to see them often would we best, as well as cheap, or even free. (i can boil rocks if that means that they r free). rocks would be a good option for me, as something natural looking would look great. if rocks are an option.

I wouldn't put any in such a small tank

Use driftwood, plants or even some PVC pipe if you want.
tall fake plants? floating? or would just a large piece of driftwood be best?
