I do have spa hose connected to a union on the backwash, I did this so I could connect it when I need it and just use the ball valve to cut off any water in the line when done. I remember doing this with an overflow box, I put a tube in the oline is sucked on it till water started to flow over, same concept? So I'm going to have to suck on the spa hose till water starts to flow correct?

Damn....I know you're strong but to suck all that air?????? Instead of sucking you can shop vac the union or valve. That should start the flow. Turn the handle to waste or rinse during the sucking and back to filter before you turn on the pump.

Without turning pump on, turn valve to Rinse or Backwash.

On my unit it doesn't matter if pump is running or not, water moves from tank out waste line,
when its on these two settings

So I assume water in tank would push any air out of system on its own accord.

Good point ;) Luckily I have one which would be so much easier. I will give this a go tomorrow after work and post my results. Thanks for all your help!

His suction line is up and over the top of the tank so he needs to start the initial syphon first then yes, it will flow by itself.

Can he just shove a powerhead/pump to the bottom of the intake pipe to prime by pumping tank water into the intake pipe?

That's why I keep a random 1k gph pump around for whatever I might need.

Worked like a charm....but I have a very very slow leak at the pump and I cant turn the fitting anymore so I need to go up the road and get an adjustable wrench. I checked all the other fittings and didnt see or feel any water so I hope this is the only one.

Should be easy to fix if it's on the suction side.

Looks like all my plumbing went perfect...but I noticed water in the pan..I have checked and rechecked and no water. Now I cant get around to the other side to see exactly where its coming from but its leaking and its not so slow.... Is there a drain valve on this? I cant remember...I'm looking online now

Edit: shoot, there is and I cant reach it...this is going to be fun....
