I believe you brought "utililty" as a comparision... Whether it's orange or apple, it's the same picture... The guy who comes to shut down your meter is as same as the fire fighters in that article. They have no authority to receive your money, or accept your word that you will pay. They were sent their to provide the service, to do their job. A lot of you guy miss the part about the fire fighters were there for the neighbor house, who paid the fee, not for the burnt house owner.

As a soldier you should'nt be putting up for these irresponsible people, your telling me If i dnt pay my taxes along with everyone else, your not going on the front line to protect your country? Your not going to protect yourself and fellow squadies from insurgants? your nutz. You get paid for it regardless wheter you fight or not right? so do the firefighters. Are you serious man, Im not condoning the fact that they guy did'nt pay for the fee, But as A EMT I cant go on the scene and say to a victim do you pay your health insurance im not going to treat you. Or a police officer saying your an illegal immigrant that dont pay taxes so I'M not going to serve and protect you. They are civil servants bottom line they have a job to do point blank. ITS THIER DUTY TO ACT!!! any firefighter/EMT/COP will tell you that.

Had a life been at risk it would be a different scenario. Saving a life is a moral obligation especially for medical personnel such as yourself. In most places firefighters, EMTs and Cops are paid by taxes to protect everybody - not where this happened though. I also know that my Navy Copsman cannot render all types of medical care to civillians, they are constrained by rules.
Again I say, the firefighters on the scene didnt arbitrarily decide not to fight the fire. They have rules and regulations they have to follow. If your company policy said that you could not use certain procedures or equipment to treat someone would you do it anyways? What would the consequences be? There are ofcourse all kinds of hypothetical exceptions to the rules but I learned along time ago that if youre not on the scene of a crisis you really cant second guess peoples decison making. Ask any cop, EMT of firefighter about that.

Are you sure you're an EMT? I'm glad you're not in my area. I wouldn't let you treat me, even if I have one leg on the dead door! Go get a psych evaluation for heavenly sake!

If you do research, I'm sure you will find out that many years ago, when EMT show up at an accident that happen in incoporate area, they will determine which jurisdiction/city the accident belongs to, and if it's not in their jurisdiction, they won't provide service. It did happen like that, until the law pass that whoever EMT get on the scence first have to provide service.

Are you kidding me. I have worked on trucks and responded to accidents and never once has the subject ever arose what jurisdiction it happened in. This is the most simple argument ever. You work as a civil servant in the EMS system you help and you are at the scene. Why does this man have to suffer because some idiot decided to tell the responding team that he did'nt pay his dues,let it burn. I'd like to see that happen in VA. Dc fire dept get a bad rap because they have slow response times and they dont always give the appropriate care but they show up and they get it done. I bet you would'nt want to live in that county, nor would any minded person who knows the FF dnt Fight fires. Nuff said

None of that compares to going into a burning building to grab a cat. How people care for their animals it their choice and I admire someone who has the desire and means to go get those catfish. He is in no way an idiot. If he expected me to endanger myself to save his catfish? maybe lol
