I would try more gelatin and less water. Mine made very little mess. I am going to try 6 packets instead of 8 though.

Really? I was thinking maybe I blended the pellets to fine. I added a 20oz of water with a lid on the pot n as I made the set up, I assumed atleast 4oz would of evaporated. The mix came out very thick, enough to where I had to move the pan around to spread out the final product evenly. Oh well, it's trial n error with new things :D

I'll try less water on the next n the one after that I'll try less blending on the pellets :D

All in all, I enjoy this product ;)

Gonna have to try this....a little variety cant hurt. Gonna have to wait a couple days cause the lady has the next two off.

Hmmmmmm....I wonder if my wife will be able to taste pellets and silversides if were to use her blender.:nilly:

Lol, after I use the blender, I just toss in a splash of bleach n fill it w/hot water. 24 hours later, wash it like normal or off to the dish washer. Wife was cool about it cause she knows I can't eat from dirty dishes :D

I have to say I don't think it will last as my fish ate 1/4 of the prepared food. It does smell to so I cut it all up into a sealed container. ATF didn't take it at first but when he did... Oh my gosh, he loved it!!!

I gotta say that it is really exciting to see so many of you trying this and having success, not just with rays.
Pass this to other forums here, maybe others can find it useful.

I continue to search for real, firm data on gelatin and elasmobranchs (rays). I have found no data showing anything of concern, yet. It appears to be that rays with simply eliminate (poop) the excess gelatin without any ill effects.

On another note I am not computer savy enough to embed video. Sorry. I will keep trying but no promises.

Respectfully,
Tim.

I don't have any rays yet, but I'd like to try this. I could probably come up with a recipe for some lungfish gel food. I'll need to buy a blender though. My mom and my girlfriend would both kill me if I did this in either of theirs.

Thank you for starting these threads FM I can only imagine how much money and time I would have wasted on pellets by now if I had never seen your thread and the best part is my ray is much better off too :)

The use of a blender is not critical really. SOme good 'ol fashion elbow grease and a whisk, bowl, cutting board, knife and patience can achieve the same results.

Low tech, quiet, cheap.

By the way, I think Lungfish are very, very ,very cool! Never owned one but someday.

That's a good point. I could just skip the blender. I might try a batch soon.

Yeah, lungfish are very cool. My South American lungfish is currently my favorite fish. I like that SALs are more of a community fish than most Africans. I'd actually like to try my lung with rays eventually, but we'll see how that goes. I'd really like to get an Aussie lung some day, but my big tank I'm planning will be for rays.
