Fish bowls suck, it would kinda be like keeping a dog in a kennel for it's entire life, of course there are ***holes who do that to
I understand this. even thought my mother is a experienced aquarist, she still supports the erronious belief that bettas live well in bowls, and I started out with my first tank as a betta in a bowl. after doing a spot of research, I found out that they need heated and filtered aquariums ideally, and that they will only survive if kept in bowls, not thrive. I got my 10G a month after. i'm still trying to convince my mother that bettas are not good for bowls.Pfisherman;576053; said:I am not arguing the humanity of fishbowls. I am simply saying that most people (us) start out with a fish in a bowl, unless they are lucky enough to have parents that are fish hobbiests themselves.
My moms fish is probably pretty happy BTW, probably much happier than it would be hanging half way out of an Os mouth! I love fish and dont encourage keeping a fish in quarters that are inadequete, but many people may start in a bowl, then hopefuly "love" their new friend and eventually upgrade to a suitable enviroment for it.

they don'y offer as much swimming space or enough surface space.Eupterus;616456; said:Is a large bowl worse then a small tank?. There are five gal bowls. If the room temps are ok, I don't see what's so bad about keeping a single betta in a good sized bowl.
