Fish keeping, is it in the genes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Definitely adding more bichirs! Got my eyes on two sens at the lfs right now, but would like to setup the 110g, or at least the 50g first before I add anything to my stock! Basically planning on moving everything from my 26g into the one day while addid two sen bichirs, one del bichir and a few more clown loaches.

Was thinking about adding a BGK, but was advised against it so I've decided otherwise! And believe me, I may not comment much, but I think I've read every post on here about bichirs and knives! Learnt a lot and made a lot of changes to my set-up thanks to all the info on this forum to make them happy.

I do it for the facts that :

I get to be relaxed by some of my tanks
When I successfully breed I feel accomplished and can say, hey I did that. Even though most people could care less
And that you can grow out and see fish develop and take prove I your accomplishments

I'm the only fish keeper in my family, and nobody quite understands what I get out of the hobby. I'm not quite sure what it is I get out of it, but I really do enjoy learning new things about fish keeping.

For me it's the fact I have an ecosystem at my fingertips I can control. I love watching fish interact with thier enviroment naturally and just go about thier business. It's just so interesting to me & I could sit infront of my fish tank for hours watching certian fish. Whenever I had my Angelfish I would watch them sway back & forth with the sword plants waiting for smaller fish to go by that they could snag, sadly my beautiful Neons & Ghost shrimp became snacks but at least the Angels were happy. Now I have a boring tank with boring fish and am hoping to get back to Angels or maybe get Rams instead, not sure yet but that one fish always makes a difference in a tank imo.

This also. Learning about new things and then passing that on to people here or else where is rewarding to me.

Same aswell. Only one in my family. I'm 14 and have 4+ tanks and I finally reached the limits where I'm not allowed to get any more.

I think part of the allure is that most people don't get to see fish in their natural habitat. Keeping a fish tank is the closest thing we have to observing these animals in the wild. Even if you have pink gravel and Sponge Bob decorations you can observe how the fish swim and interact with one another.

1. Im ALLWAYS outdoors when I can be... I love hunting, fishing, mountin biking, boating. You name it im usually down hell went sky diving the other day that was a blast ! So I like my tanks to be as close to nature as posible so no stone little castles... lol... no offence if you like those but I like the natural look. So I would assume that is one reason I like fish, I cant keep many "wild animals" in my suberbian house lol... My black lab is far from wild... good with retriveing ducks tho...

2. Also its a HUGE stress reliever for me, I find just losing yourself into the tank is awsome... I usually just stare at the tanks instead of the tv when Im at home... Or on here lol....

3. Gives me a hobby, if I am stuck at home im usually pretty bord... Clean the tank, filters, feed them ect. Just care for it... Gives me some productive to do if I can be outdoors or at the gym.

4. Learning new things. I love to learn and study and try new things. I had kept reptiles all when I was younger. I revently sold my 2 large snakes I still had, they all are boring just sit there... Fish swim and move and entertain me... Especially cichlids FISH FIGHTS ! lol
