hey redtailfool, here there isn't any big store or breeders! So you have to fish them or import! Could you belive that? and that's why it is so expensive!

yeah hard to believe since they come from rivers in s.a and we also have them importers and there are only a few retail stores that carry leos in their store.

I am on a budget too, I suppose the problem is that everyones budget is different.

I am a finance analyst by trade and make decent money, but am still very much on a budget. My 300 sat empty for over 2 years because I couldn't fit the fish or ongoing expenses into the budget (rays aren't cheap, unfortunately). I still have to make compromises. I originally designed my tank specifically to breed leopoldi, but I think $300-$400 for small imports is beyond ridiculous. If the price ever comes down, I may reconsider, but for now, Motoro and Humerosa it is. I'm not dropping a grand for 3 fish.

I live, eat, and breathe money for a living, so trust me when I say this: Having a well defined, conservative budget is the absolute key to financial success. No one likes to hear it, but there is no way around it. Set a budget for your hobbies and stick to it. On the plus side, it forces you to become a much more organized and informed consumer as well as hobbyist.

It is a question of priorities!!!LOL :D

But you should come and live in Japan, no where in the world are fish as expensive as Japan. Just an example this fish is over $10,000.(BTW it is a Hoplias Macrophthalmus) Very rare I must admit, I suppose as they say ,"beauty is in the eye of the beholder". :naughty:

Oh man, In Japan all bets are off .. No wonder all the AAA Grade fish are shipped over there. Japanese Hobbyists dont give a hoot how much a fish will cost them. HARDCORE is the word. :)

Your telling me!!! :hitting:

Here are some other examples of expensive fish.

This is from a LFS called Africa, A short body Dat ,It is selling $10,000 US

This is also from the same shop, A platinum silver arow, it is selling for $15,000 US

And there are many more like this, and I havn't even start on the expensive fish, the Asian arowana.

^^^Dam $15,000 for a fish..... :WHOA: .........At times I think people with money just want to spend money and feel rich and not for the right intentions. Yes it's rare but if it was selling for only 5 bucks would the super rich people still consider it a must have....to show off, get what I'm saying. I know that there are true hobbiest that are filthy rich too so I'm not being ignorant at all.

As for me I'm not married and don't live with myself that's the only thing holding me back from a monster tank. I doubt I can convince my sister to let me get a 125 gallon I've been wanting so I'm limited to the 30 gallon I keep right next to where I sleep. Now if that aint love I don't know what it is. The last thing I watch before I go to sleep is my fish, and the first thing I look at is my fish....

My budget is limited to my room and tank space if you can imagine. Time to move out right guys, but I'm still young.
