Fish Money?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i dont know, i dont really ever PLAN on spending a set amount on fish it just happens... but its still not that much cuz i really cant do much with my ONE ( :() tank right now

The most expensive fish I've bought to date was $45 (and that's before my employee discount, so like $32). I hardly ever buy a single fish though, so I have spent over $75 on fish several times. My fish budget usually just depends on how much I have at the time.

lol I have a seperate savings account where 20 dollars of each check goes into it, then when I want fish, I withdrawl some cash XD

extra money i have... and i save for stuff i want...

lol its called if theres money in my pocket and something i want i buy =]

I tend to go overboard. I work three jobs, and still can go through all that money for fish related items, no problem.

Based on the replies, the concensus I got is that most MFK that have replied are pennies pinchers or they're in school with limited funds for the hobby.:( I did not see many replies of members willing to spend over $100 a fish.:( You guys probably have other expensive hobbies so fish may not be a high priority hobby to you.

My financial advice is budget yourself according to your priorities and if you like something then buy it within reason. Avoid splurging at fish store when going there to pick up food, Prime, or misc items. Stick your agenda. I take care of my fish better when it's more expensive.:)

fishkeeping is my hobbie and i budget accordingly.. i cant relax and watch my fish if my tummy is grumbling cuz theres no money for food...

I think the "Envelope System" is a great way to manage your spending money. You just set aside a small percentage of every paycheck (cash, of course) into an envelope. That way, you can't overspend!

If I see a fish I like, that will fit into my tank, I buy it. My Ornate Bichir is the last fish I'm buying for a while, because I'm saving up for a Fender Jaguar guitar. :grinno: (25% of the way there.) Of course, the only exception is if I come across a Ctenopoma kingsleyae or Ctenopoma acutrirostre. Other than this, I'm done with buying new fish for a while.
