Fish you would love to keep but can't.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They're like Oscar-esque with their begging and owner responsiveness. They're extremely fun to watch, you can really get a sense of their intelligence just by watching them. It's definitely quite the opposite.

I'd love to be able to keep Dovii or Umbi in a "community" type setting, but of course the space required is out of reach for the time being!

I've always wanted a Zonatus. All of the Vieja's are cool -even if they're not called that anymore. Orthosternarchus tamandua, the Greater Siren, Giant Gourami and the electric eel complete my bucket list. Maybe an Aba or if I ever become a well funded super villain a proper large predatory eel tank

I've also love to keep a jardini. Absolutely stunning fish.

In retrospect I would like a Catlocarpio Siamensis.

Yes, exactly. Depends on the species of course, some lay in ambush much of the time, but typically not Mbu. They are generally very owner responsive, and just an all around cool fish. I owned a young juvenile Mbu once, briefly, and have owned various other puffer species over the years.

Have you ever kept figure of 8 puffers?I'm considering a smaller puffer for a spare 4 foot tank. Not sure of the most suitable species for this size tank. Maybe south American puffers,I prefer the look of the figure of 8's.

Green Spotted Puffers would be good for a 4 foot tank, really not too hard to maintain the slightly brackish set up they require.

I like those but I thought they needed full marine conditions eventually. Are they happy in brackish water all their lives?

I think it's more like a pH kind of attitude in that as long as you keep the salinity consistent then they should be fine. I don't believe that they must have full on marine salinity when they reach adulthood. I could be wrong about this but this is what I've been led to believe from my research. Mine are at about 1.010 right now.
