FISHING SEASON 09!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm off to a decent start this spring, my last 5 redfishing trips have yielded counts of 1, 16, 10, 5 and 20 fish respectively, all on fly, all sight fishing to tailing fish. On the 1 fish day conditions were lousy, on the 5 fish day, conditions were good, but I only fished for 45 minutes.

Took my 4 year old daughter to a friends pond last week and watched her catch about 30 sunfish including bluegill, redear and sac-a-lait (crappie). With things getting hotter the redfish will get fussy except for right at dusk and dawn, but in the fall it will really kick into high gear.

Tight Lines,

Ron

those are fun to catch regardless of age, not only do they taste good, they get to a good size, and they r always biting (unless something in the weather is really off).

Fiend,

Redfish will hit bass lures pretty regularly, but the fishing is a bit different. Redfish are itenerate feeders, moving spot to spot seeking out food, bass are mostly ambush preditors. While bass school at times, redfish do it much more frequently, but the way i fish for reds is really a different deal. I'm fishing water less than a foot deep, targeting fish that are either tailing, or even exposing their backs above the water surface. It's really cool to see a school of a hundred redfish in the 10 pound range in a foot of water. When the school moves it pushes a large wake in front of it.

When redfish are on the flats like this, they are feeding, but they are also real spooky, they know they are exposed and if you make a noisy cast or bang your push pole on the boat they are gone. Redfish are much less structure oriented than bass. Bass use structure for ambush, when redfish do relate to structure it's because that's where the food is living, also redfishing can be very tide dependant which isn't an issue with bass.

While redfish do seem to be on the feed more than bass saying that they are always biting is a big overstatement. Slack water, wrong tide, high pressure and a mumber of other things can put them off.

FISH LANED-3

First spot is a small pond around the corner from my job. I left out alittle earlier so i could get a quick 15 in before heading to work. I was able to land 2 bass, one being like 15"s and the other being like a 12"er. Both fish were caught on a "blue gill" popper.

After work i went to the D&R canal for a hour and was able to land one bass, It was a decent 14"er.

Nothing big today but it was still fun!!!

FISH LANDED-8-TOTAL-6-ME/BIG BRUH-1/NEPHEW-1

I didnt have to work today so i met up with my brother at the D&R canal(ewing side) this morning. I was able to bang 2, a bluegill, and a CP. Big bruh was able to land a bass. The bite was very slow.

Later in the afternoon I picked up my nephew and we went to 2 different spots.

The D&R canal(Whitehead rd side) was the first spot. I was able to bang 4 before we headed to the last spot of the day.

Colonial lake is the name of this spot. I wasnt able to get anything but my nephew was able to land one on a 1/4oz white spinner bait

No monsters(3.5lbs+) or beasts(2.8-3.5lbs) today but ha atleast i caught something!!!

I'm heading down to the beach next weekend to do a good bit of fishing.

I'll probably split my time between running the trolley rig for kings off the pier tee and fishing inshore for flounder, drum, and trout. Might do a bit of surf fishing too depending on the conditions.

I'll be sure to post the results.

FISH LANDED-6 TOTAL, ME-1/BIG BRUH-5

As stated yesterday, Farrington lake was todays lake of choice.

I woke up and installed new troiling motor and we were off. The new motor isnt the greatest by my standands. Between gears 4 and 5 there is to much of a difference and the foot petal button is way to hard to press in.

So when we first got there i spent some time tring to get the hang of the new motor and big bruh was catching fish. He was able to land 4 very quickly, with one of them being a nice 3.2 pounder that come from under a tree and straight murdered the buzzy. Me on the other hand i was off today. It was so bad that after not even getting a bite, i took some night cralwers some dude on a kayak gave us and started catching sunnies. I banged 13 of them before switching back to bass fishing. I was lucky enough to finally land a small bass while throwing a popper.

Definitely not the greatest day i have ever had but it felt good to go out on the boat after a two week layoff.
