my dad uses spinning reels, he often gets alot of backlash and "rats nest" also. The jigs we use for crappie and perch are just so light, that it seems to happen to everyone we talk to. i have never had this happen on my zebcos despite how much the lure weighs.
its usually a side effect of how the line coils up on the reel when its put on, and how its reeled back in with periods of slack in it etc.

Well Rob and I talked about a night trip on Cedar lake to see if there was a wiper bite after dark. This would help beat the pleasure boat traffic. Well it turned out to be a bust. We got two before dark and that was it.

Not the most productive trip we have ever had but better than nothing at all.

Good morning everyone!!

Great stuff CF!!!

Yeah the night time bite is alittle tricky cause some nights the bite will be unbeieliveable but must nights like you stated the bite followed the day light it went away.

Went out to the Delaware river last night at 10 on my peoples boat but we didn't get to fish cause a big storm rolled in.

SPOTS FISHED-2

TIME FISHED-3 HRS

FISH LANDED-3 :irked:

Today i was kinda down, so i decided to go do some lake hopping.

First spot is called imaystown lake. I banged alittle one on the buzzy while fishing off the bridge.

Prospertown lake was my second choice of the day, its right by six flags for all the New Jersey people. I was able to bang two small ones on the buzzy. I had alot of little ones run down on the popper but they were so small they couldnt take it in.

Didnt catch much today but it boosted my spirites!!!

~~~~~~FISH MORE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~STRESS LESS~~~~~~
I never have trouble with backlash on my spinning reels except when I overfill them them; casting reels, on the other hand, are notorious for backlash, but it can be eliminated with proper adjusting and technique. I rarely get backlash with either of my casting reels as long as I pay attention to the adjustments (drag, brakes, etc.) and my casting distance is much further with casting reels due to learning to avoid the dreaded backlash. As funny as this may seem, it is possible to get backlash on a close faced reel.
Went surf fishing on Cape Lookout National Seashore this weekend. Only brought my lightweight rigs though since we were camping.
Fished two mornings and caught 5 pompano, 3 whiting, and half a dozen spots.
Made for a good sized feast over the campfire.
Great stuff boss, keep us updated!
I was worried about backlash when I got my first bait caster. So I went with the top of the line stuff for that year a Gloomis mossyback casting rod and a Pfluger Summit high speed baitcasting reel. Never had many problems with it Except When I put brand new mono on it. But I have the same problems when I put brand new mono on spinning reels.
