I went with a friend after work today and about three casts in I managed to get hooked by my friends catfish rig. It wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't been a chicken and pulled it out but my parents insisted that I go to the hospital and "wait for a professional" to take it out. Anyhow here's the picture

Nice. When were you planning on telling everyone that you are secretly a Sasquatch?

Too deep to push it back out through another hole and clip the barb to take it out? Apply ice, pinch skin, push hook out other way, cut with wire cutters, pull out. Tbh that looks like it went too deep without risking damage to something, just thought I'd ask.

.....
lol sometimes you just gotta rip it right back out the way it went in :( Not always smart, but sometimes you have to.....the big barbs hurt the worst though, that wasn't a small treble hook

Years ago, I must of been in 5th grade I got a treble in the leg; I think we cut the hook and pulled it thru, opposed to backing out. There is a 1st aid procedure, that includes slipping a needle cover and backing out tho.

I noticed sometimes it hurts a lot more to push it the rest of the way through than just rip it out and suck that sh*t up lololol

in reality, that's a biiiiiig hook....I truly feel for you when you ripped that one out. D davenmandy made a good point - this is definitely one of the more overlooked serious ones I have seen. Sorry, Kid, didn't mean to down play it. I had one that size stuck in the fingertip of my middle finger when I was 10. I can still see the scar where my Uncle ripped it out. Getting hooked really sucks, man.....it' not like that's a #14 on a Rebel Crickhopper. Keep that sh*t clean and sterile, Dude, and make sure you have an updated Tetanus shot.

How does it work?
Went out to Sharpsville Dam over the weekend....buddy and his work friends went after channel cats, so naturally I had to throw a 1/2 ounce football jig with a super chunk trailer because I roll against the grain like that, and ended up landing the 2 biggest small mouth I'd ever personally caught at roughly 17-19" and easily 3-4 pounds, didn't get the actual measurements, I was 35 yards from shore and wasn't dragging the fish back. and also the biggest 2 fish of the day haha (weight-wise, the channel cat they caught were longer, but thin)
You should get a Tailor's measure for taking lengths and girths....you wouldn't BELIEVE how many fish I have underestimated in size since I started keeping accurate readings. Some of my biggest and potentially record-setting Smallmouths went unmeasured in girth or unweighed.

Always remember Length X Girth Squared divided by 800 will give you a good ridiculously close weight. Feel free to test it on multiple fish with a digital scale, I wouldn't suggest it if I hadn't already. If anything the formula gives you an underestimate, and it would have weighed MORE on a digital.
