HOT lol. I wanna say right offshore the temp was nearly 80 until the past few days. Not sure what temp we were fishing. The back bay up and down NJ are stuffed with striper. No monsters but good fishing
"Back" bay? Do you mean upper Delaware by that?? What are they biting on?

yea, looked like he swallowed it pretty deep. Trout are hemophiliacs....once they start bleeding, you might as well just keep them otherwise they just bleed to death.

What color green? Chartreuse, Forest, standard, etc?
Chartreuse
he wasn't bleeding, however the he was hooked right in the gullet. So we were able to get the hook out
However I did read that one thread on here, that said coke can stop the bleeding, I've never needed to use it, yet. Ever since then I have taken a can with me, when ever I go up to the lake

Gut-hooks can be fatal.....we never know because ....well, we don't see them again, but a pierced stomach-lining in any other species is big trouble. I think fisheries regulations needs to be re-evaluated, but more strict. Trout are stocked and sustainable and farmed, but I think if fisheries are to survive, we should not be allowed to keep species that are not farmed, sustainable, stocked, etc....Just my opinion....I have observed bodies of water and the fish that inhabit them for over 3 decades and the decline never stops in bass and other gamefish. Trout are the only one that get replenished, mostly unless they stock/farm Esox in your area

Catch and release when possible, but when it comes to Trout, I finally understand why people go after them w/ Fly-tackle....it's incredibly gentle on the fish - just like the River Monsters episode when the Tribal Chief told Jeremy Wade he could fish for Arapaima in their sacred water.....

.....as long as it was on a Fly-rod. :D

well in some of our lakes were stocked with tiger muskies to keep the carp population in some lakes down, however not on a regual basis.
I usually use circle hooks when fishing as about 95% it hooks the fish in the corner of its mouth, but yeah I do agree with you. I would fly fish, but never really been interested to do so
I just like bait fishing too much, I very rarely use actual lures

I agree that overfishing is ruining our lakes, many of my favorite lakes no longer produce much, I also only use barbless hooks, I have almost zero noted fatalities since switching to barbless, I also feel some people mishandle fish

Holding fish upside down can make the fish calmer, try it the next time you catch a floppy sunfish

Never post anymore, so figured I'd give a small report.

Around southwestern Ontario has been quite slow. We are getting constant scorching temperature and no rain, it has probably been the worst summer I have had in a long time. No fish moving, everything spooked. That being said I found a good spot for channel cats, went out the day after a solid rain and saw coffee with 2 crème coloured water. My friend was like "pshhh this is pointless, lets try to go find a pond" and I said wait a minute, it just rained so it got all the fish moving, plus this water screams catfish to me, and since we were fishing with chicken liver the colour shouldn't be an issue. Wouldn't you know it I went 5 for 6 in 6 casts that day just to start, landing over a dozen, all within 3-4 lbs with a couple over 5. Went back to that spot a couple times since and it has been significantly slower, still managing at least 4 cats though, and both other times getting them on the first cast like the first time. I lost a massive lunker cat, probably biggest I ever had on, took me to the far shore, then up river, than down river, and then into a flipping snag and broke off.

Speaking of first casts, went to a closer spot with about 45 minutes of light left just to run out the weekend, first cast with a worm caught the biggest carp I've caught in a while. Almost spooled me, I haven't had a non salmanoid run so much line outta my real as this guy. Still not my record carp, but record over the past few years. Nothing caught other than that.

All this fishing being done on an ultra lite with 6 lb test and a small reel. Makes it so much more fun, love seeing that rod strain lol.

That said, GOD I CAN'T WAIT FOR SOME SOLID RAIN AND FOR THE SALMON TO START RUNNING. It's killing me guys ..... :(
