Fishing season for 2017

Got in to 5 Smallmouth Buffalo and 2 Common Carp all on the fly tonight on the Allegheny River. All fish were in the 22-26" and 7-11 pound range. Lost one that was a 20+ pounder. Man, these things are freight trains even on an 8wt fly rod, might have to get a 10wt for next time! Some dive, some haul out of water, some tail walk, and some run for several hundred feet. Longest fight was 35 minutes.
If u ever get a chance try and hook into some big grass carp,a challenging fish both to hook into and fight
Definitely something I want to try this year! Not many places around here (SWPA) that have them but I know of a small private pond where they're trying to get rid of them that has a few dozen and a friend of mine might show me a couple spots in NEOH).
Nice. I miss fishing for them. Gonna have to this yr. I just gotta remember when the run is here.
Could've been fishing for holdover Trout this weekend, but I chose to strip leeches for Chubs instead. Am I crazy? No, just a proud rough angler

I love taking my kids fishing for chubs. There's just something about catching them nonstop
Slayin' on a Friday night. 2/6 Buffs landed on the fly, stripping and swinging cranefly larva and stones. 28" 10# and 26" 8#.
