Fluval FX5 Just Bit Me In The Butt!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I still think it's a great filter that surpasses other mass-market canisters. In fact, I ordered another one last night. But, you can bet your guitar, your cowboy hat, and your house cat that I'm zipping the $&!] out of that return assembly before I plug the filter in.

Thanks i was about to have second thoughts of getting this filter since this is the only negative post i have found i still gonna get it

exactly. this is pretty much the first big problem with a fx5 i've read. good alert and solutions. too bad about the fish. RIP

Well this is the second thing I've read about poor quality of design on the FX5. thats enough or me to consider it a skip.
first one had to do with the screwdowns and how getting water in there and tightining it wet can make the casing crack due to water not having anywhere to go.

but if you take into consideration how many people own them i am sure its easily 10000+ hwo knows maybe 100000+ worldwide and to only have found next to nothing bad about the filter as opposed to how many good comments have been made. Has to say something about the product since it has been out for awhile now

Thanks for the information. I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

I don't even use the clips in the illistration that i got with the FX5. I'm asking for touble. I think i better check that everything is as secure as it should be.

I love the FX5 though I have it on my 180 at the moment.

I doubt that filter has that much distribution. But even so this is just mentions of 2 issues on this fourm alone. This does not acount for the people we have not heard of having issues because they do not come onto these fourms. To me those are two inherant issues due to design. And those particular issues will be a potential issue with every one that has been sold.
They have only been on the market what 6 months? I'm sure as time goes on these issues will pop up more often. Specifically this one in particular.

That and for 300 bucks you can have a much beter filtration system then the FX5. ie full wet dry.

thanks for the drawings and heads up!

Where online are you ordering the FX5 for so cheap?

That is true you could have a wet dry sytems for that price. But for people like me that is not an option since i am not the most handy person with tools.
