If it ever felt like i flamed you i sincerely apologize as that was never my intention...

But that just proves my point that its hard to judge what is being said at times when you dont know the tone being used or the context its being used in if only certain parts are being read...

I was joking, I don't let internet banter and e-thugs bother me but I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from.

Greatly appreciate your sincere apology as well!

I understand when it comes to MBU's and certain other large fish that there will be debates about tank size... Which is why i personally thinks its sometimes good to debate the thoughts behind it without the personal attacks... At least this gives people a chance to think what they believe to be appropriate until some science experiment is done to give us some facts...

Agree with every bit of that!

Most of the threads on here that even mentions MBU is probably 80% "1000g tank needed or fish die" post. I've read through several threads with someone asking for help and it goes pages with nothing but flaming about tank size and minimal to zero help for the puffer.

Almost seems as though either way the fate of the MBU is prewritten, either die at the LFS or die in the homes of hobbyist. You figure with all the "experts" on here someone would help at least give the MBU a 50/50 shot at making it in the care of hobbyist.

ehh... enough ranting.

on the lighter note... I got my MBU to eat from my hand at the water surface now after about 2wks of owning him!! He spent about a yr at the LFS were he was fed just enough to keep him alive and the size of the tank pretty much only allowed for him to eat off the substrate.

Always sad to hear about fish such as puffers stuck in small tanks at the store... I mean i agree with you as well, i mean honestly maybe a few people here could raise a healthy, full grown MBU in a tank thats under say 600G which lives 20yrs+, except no bodies really tried it yet so we dont know :)

I think everyone is "trying" but it's not accepted amongst the majority so no one really post about it.

I know of several MBU keepers that are local to me and have raised healthy and happy looking MBUs but they don't post on here due to the negative crowd that MBUs attract on here.

MBU is Tetraodon MBU, a species of puffer from Lake Tanganyika.

I've been lucky to find a LFS that sells Mystery snails to locals that use for food source for a really good price and one of the parks nearby has an outbreak of apple snails so my breeding tank has turned into a quarantine/gut loading tank.

Sweet thanks for the info I looked it up seems like a difficult fish to try to take care of! But it totally looks badass so I can understand why you got it! What do you put in your quarantine tank to feed them? I would like to try and set this tank up soon to get them breeding quick... Do you have any tank size suggestions or should I worry about substrate or even a heater? Should I put any filtration on it or should I just change out water?

I'm using a 20g tank for mine but before that it was just a simple rubbermaid tub with an airstone. I change water frequently so it wasn't a big issue.

Now my tank has a heater cause I keep my house really cold and warmer temps increases metabolism which also increases growth rate (from what I've experienced with dwarf shrimp).

I feed the tank "Jakes Veggie sticks w/ calcium" which is an upgraded version of Ken's foods. I get it from a member on ThePlantedTank.net.
