Thanks guys. I work at a grocery store and I see Tilapia all the time. I will check some prices and post to see if they are worth it. Thanks

if you expect to be out of the pelets you curently have in a year wow you have alot but you are aware of the growth rate of these fish? it is quite rapid and a well varied diet seems to stimulate this even farther. any way back to the original topic i feed hikari masavor cihclid gold and bio glod aswell as bloodworms peas nightcrawlers ghoast shrim frozen shrimp and frozen talpia. if you do feed peas feed frozen they have no presevatives unlike cand peas. dont know if any one else does but diced apple chunks mine love that it is only a treat tho. the top of this post was not meant to cause problems just a healpful hint and a dumb obsaevation.

I use tetraChichild jumbo stiicks they can be a mess when they have their
mouths full. My Oscar is about 1.5 years and 10" and very healthy. I also feed him ocasional feeders and worms I find outside after it rains

I have a full can of HBH oscar bites. I think it will last a year. If he eats it all sooner than that and I can move onto feeding him bigger stuff that is the opposite of a problem haha

you can feed your oscar almost anything...i feed my little guy f/d krill, frozen bloodworms, market shrimp, feeders,....basically anything that can fit in his mouth

Good answer ha. I just want to find a good cheap staple and make sure I don't feed it anything bad for it.

I see massive amounts of excellent information here for you to use in deciding what to use. I had this problem you are having as far as what to feed. I too was a first time owner of a Tiger and an Albino Oscar several years ago. When I purchased my 2 O's, they were but 2 inches long. I had a friend tell me, as what has been stated her on this thread, if you mix the diet, you'll have a rapid growth of your fish. Periodic water changes help too.

I mixed up the diet of my 2 O's, and within 14 months they were in separate tanks and 16 inches long each. In addition to feeding them, I did water changes every 4-5 days as to the mess they make from waste. Remember that what you put into the mouth of your Oscar, it will be digested, absorbed for health and growth and the rest is just fish waste matter and large quantities of it.

It would take me about 1 hour per tank to maintenance, and I vacumed every other day for excessive waste which layed on the surface of the substraight (gravel). With water change and deep cleaning of the substraight, I completed it in about 2 hours per tank. Don't get me wrong. Oscars are one of the best fish I have really enjoyed having. They are great pets to have and I'd do it again if I could, but can't right now. Good luck with your Oscar.

Your right! There is a ton of useful info. here. I love it. 16 inches long? That is crazy! Do you still have them?

I am looking forward to the maintenance and watching my O grow like a mad man!
