Great story and pictures! I don't think i'd be able to let the babies go, I'd have to fill the entire house with water and just live outside watching them through the windows!
haha great idea!!
unfortunately I can't even upgrade my small tanks ...

nice wha t are they eating?
parents have got Hikari cichlid bio-gold+ and Tetra doromin in the last year.
as for the time of that spawn ( 1 year ago and before that ) they were only getting a frozen mix of beefheart, shrimp, spinach, carrot, pea, etc.
the mother had a brilliant yellow color because of the spinach, but she lost it to a common orange after I started feeding them hikari gold and biogold. ( compare 4th and 6th pictures )
their son has got mostly Tetra foods in his life, and some times hikari and shrimps.
but if your question is about the fry, I fed them newly hatched brine shrimps in the first month, and a very small pellet called Biomar in the second month ( its a french food with high protein used for fast growing )
my pair spawned again recently, this time I didn't use live brine shrimp and don't have time for several water changes, as a result many of the fry have died in these 2-3 weeks.
