FX5 100% the best external !!!

:lol2: Well, then just like I said, you completely misunderstood my post. You said yourself, you thought it was a "demand or challenge". It wasn't. And I am not asking someone to spoon feed me, far from it. It was said that the FX5 is the best external filter. So I ask why is it the best external filter? What are the Pros and Cons? It was by no means a demand or a challenge, but more of input. Regarding the eheim posse, I think they posted an excellent objective finding, in that, they have their eheim filters/heating functioning for several years. Now I would say that is excellent performance. And I wasn't starting an argument, it is a post to gather information about this "Best External Filter". You see my meaning? :lol2: if not, oh well...it's no big deal really.:clap
 
I will measure it later for you (tomorrow at the latest) - need to keep the 45 degree connectors in mind when taking the total height...not sure if the specifications consider that
 
I am well pleased with mine. I run other fluval and eheim filters at home too.

No it doesn't come with any biological media.

It will fit just about into a 24 inch cabinet. I made my cabinet smaller than that before the FX5 came out but I think the FX5 looks cool enough to rock it out in the open. Water changes are easy because there is a drain on the bottom of the filter so you can attach a pipe to it and drain fast. But it does need to stand the test of time before it is proven.

I find most of the Eheim posse being far from objective. Longevity is always a good thing but as it is pointed out earlier its a new product. So lets pick another Hagan product that is legendary in performance, gets excellent reviews and is very cost effective and argueably the "best bang for the buck" and thats the Aqua Clear series. I have AC 500's that have been running non-stop for 14 years or more....its all how you want to look at things or spin them....
As for misunderstanding your post, I definitely understood it. It still has that tone as that someone has to prove or justify the product to you. Be honest now - are you in the market for one? Doesnt sound like it honestly.....:thumbsup:
 
I used media from other filters. Ehein stubstrat and substrat pro and a little bit of fluval bio max. It would probably take about the same amount as two 405's.

You dont do your water changes with the drain on the bottom, thats really for emptying the canister before you need to move it. Or to quickly drain out sediment and such...
The extra quick disconnect valve (provided) hooks up to a spare 3/4" hose (that you supply) and all you need to do is switch this with the exhaust hose thats connected to the tank. So instead of the water flowing back into the tank, it is flowing through the extra hose and valve and out the window or drain. You then have the full pump capacity to empty your tank fast - approx 15 minutes to get my 220 less than 50% or when the suction breaks at the intake hose inside the tank.
 
I was trying to decide on a new filter on monday.
When I set up my tank (225 US 187 IMP Gallons) i couldn't decide from all the fluval or ehiem lovers which filter would be best. So I got 2x Fluval 404's and 2x Ehiem ProII'a. My last 404 died on sunday hence me looking for a new filter. Both ehiems are going fine still btw, so I bought ehiem again.

Having said that the FX5 is not a 404 so you never know, I was just not willing to take the risk.

I believe the 404 was discontinued, and replaced with a newer model 405. It was not stated as to why it was discontinued.

I am always in the market for a newer pump/filter. I always want to have a backup just in case I get a lemon product and it breaks down. I have way too many expensive fish not to have a back up plan. And even if I was not in the market for filter, it is always helpful for other members who are in the market for a filter. It doesn't really matter how I posts messages, it is the way it is interpreted, and if the interpretation is "misunderstood", then it is not understood. It is the nature of the reader and how the response is created. The posts can be read any way the reader wants it to be, and not the posts. Also considering the posts, every post has to be read with a grain of salt since not all of us are writers. And as responses, the reply should contain politically correct, and/or gentle words so as not to create an argument, or offense to others. emoticons (smileys) help too. We are all in it together. I am not the enemy. :lol2:

Using that drain at the bottom is fast enough for me! Plus I can syphon out some of the really big sh*t with another tube at the same time.
