When doing that try some thin slivers or fish and shrimp also. He might just take it right off especially after a worm piece or two.

oh ok well thank you for the info :) it really helps...i'll try mixed types of fishy food on the stick later at night...where i heard are most active when lights are out...but i have a light dimmer switch so i can lower the light brightness.

thats funny you mentioned your pbass where biting at his mouth because when i put in my 12inch spotted in my tank also my pbass thought his mouth was food and where picking at it but i guess they found out it wasnt so it stop. yea but its common for them to be on the bottom my chills with my endlies all the time

yea now my gars top of the mouth is kinda reddish from all the biting from the Orinos...but nothing seriously. I added Stress Coat as they must have been stressed alot from that continous attack...but now my orinos stop being aggressive to them and now letting them swim freely. Now mines stay at the top of the water where they can get a bit of air every so often. They don't lay down on the bottom much anymore since i added the floating plants and floating driftwood :D

NOOOOO!!!! my stu*** orino killed my largest longnose gar! bastard killed it!

also an important note that was overlooked earlier, pbass and gars are generally not a good combo...i would separate the remaining one before things get any worse. generally cichlids and gars should not be kept together. i'm sure there's a list somewhere on this forum, but cichlids, centrarchids, Australian arowanas, and large aggressive catfishes are all ill-advised tankmates.

in captivity, gars are best kept by themselves (or with other gars), but bichirs, Australian/South American lungfishes, some South American arowanas (varies with individual), African bonytongues, some datnoids (again, varies with individual) are all generally acceptable tankmates. i would skip any other combo--

one of my orinos went crazy out of nowhere and attacked my other orinos and i guess the gar was in the way when swimming around and the orino kept on thrashing the gar

I know its an odd combo, but my 14" Longnose is with a 8" Dragon Eel, and a 5" Striped Raphael Cat. I don't recommend the Dragon Eel though, cause my Gar did bite and wrestle him once, just once though. Never tried it again. (it was my fault I dropped a bloodcube in for the eel at the same time as godlfish for the gar...)
