Geo Journey (winemilleri)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you geos are starting to look good, def one of my favorite geo species. as for food, i dont worry about it too much, the advice thats always stuck with me is look at the ingredients and make sure the first one or two are protiens and not wheat or anything like that. thats the mark of a good food in my opinion. i personally use xtreme and my fish are healthy and happy, i also feed blood worms. although some people might feel they are useless i do feed blood worms (only hikari though, i do not like most other brands). the only issue ive ever encountered is that because they are so light if you have a current in the tank they can get sucked into your filter so watch for that. they are a great treatif nothing else and high protein

How are they doing with the live plans, been wanting to add some to my tank as well.

I've got 6 Winemilleri ranging from 3.5" to 6" or so in a tank with Sword plants. No issues. I have rock & pebbles around the base of the plants to prevent them from being uprooted.

Honestly though - these Winemilleri have to be the most docile cichlid I have ever owned. They are a mellow fish. They sift the sand for food constantly but they don't dig as much as other cichlids and are not nearly as rambunctious as other earth eaters I have kept.

So I've decided to completely switch gears and creat a psudo-riparium. I've drained a bit of the water and acquired some Ranjini Swords that will grow well out of the water creating a beautiful 'rivers edge' effect. Also, got some Nana Anubias that is tiny and cute. I've read anubias does well emmerced, anyone here know anything about that? What other plants do good coming out of the water? I definitely plan on having an entire surface covering of water lettuce as well. I am super happy with the concept so far, but if you have any experience, or comments i would love to learn from you.

I realize i should probably move this topic into the planted section.. But it's still all about the Winemillers for me. They are doing great. Uneffected by the massive changes I'm making because they chill at the bottom always.

I've created some small grow baskets to emerse and multiply some previously submerged, small Ranjini Swords that weren't in great shape. I've lined the baskets with gravel and filled them with black humate. I have enough room to try others, I'm still looking for types i want to try. The baskets are suspended by spiderwire and fishing hooks. The Pearl Gourami all seem to be perplexed by the hanging baskets. Constantly using their feelers to check them out.

I also dropped about 20 ghost shrimp in there and the geos are completely uninterested. So now i have a bunch more interesting charecters to observe. I'll attach some photos of all this crazyness. Oh, and i found a Marineland l.e.d. strip, i added for a bit more light.
