my Geophagus Tapajos Orange Heads have just spawned. they've layed their eggs on a piece of bogwood, and are defending it well (not harassing the others however, just keeping them away from the spawning site )

did a major change about a week and half ago, where I drained the tank put in plant substrate and sand, then filled up with 75-80% new water, increased the temp in the tank as it was feeling a bit cool, its now 30c, however it was about 27-28 mark before that.
I also did a 50%wc today.

I've had the fish since they were about 1" (btw their F1) and that was just over a year ago, their now 5" or so

tank parameters,
ammonia 0mg/l
nitrite 0mg/l
nitrate 0mg/l (though this is testing after the wc)
pH 6.8-7
Kh about 1
Gh about 1

décor LOTS of plants small amount of bogwood and sand

was afraid to use flash, so these are slightly blurry due to being low shutter speeds and hand held

now to sort out hatching some artemia for fry food.

anything else I need too note

WOW, sweet tank, nice looking geos, congrats on the spawn!!

Congratulations. I have been trying to get my jurupari to spawn, but no luck so far

congrats, your best bet is LEAVE THEM ALONE! as for food for fry i wouldn't worry about it just yet, you have a week or so. they will pick up the eggs in the next 12 -24 hours. and the male and female will share this task. once they start spitting them out for long periods of time is when you need to go in with a net and scoop them out. (just the fry) and feed baby brine shrimp. if they eat the babys, its cool, just let them, they WILL spawn again now that they have started.

:D

Congratz on the spawn! Im currently trying to raise 5(yes, five) Geophagus Brasiliensis myself. I got them at the store for free and now I love these fish!! Great work.

Really nice looking tank! Congrats on the spawn, hope it all works out for you!

Damn man good luck on this. I cant wait till my Tapajos spawn, but they are only about 3 inches or so right now. And mine are (F2). But its good to see what a fellow MFKer did to get the fish to spawn, big water change and raise the temp. Good luck again, and please keep me and everyoner else posted.!

congrats on the spawn !!! how are they doing ?? are they carring the eggs yet ??

eggs are still on the bogwood, thought their being intensively looked after the parents, who are guarding a 10-20 cm circle, but only keeping other fish away, not attacking them. they covered the eggs in sand however.

hopefully getting some artemia eggs tomorrow (the shop was due to get them, and they thought they were decapsulated as well. so bit easier there) any particular salt for hatching brine shrimp??

unfortunately, at the same time I've had to rescue 2 of my mbuna as their getting the cr@p kicked out of them. which has ment i'm trying to make a devide for the 10g hospital tank, and find extra filters for that, so going to have fun sorting out a spare tank for the fry...
