Geophagus have spawned

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
female appears to be holding the eggs (they got big mouths, its hard to tell, at least mbuna look like they've got a mouthful)

finally got some artemia eggs, so will start some hatching 2morow, and make up another 2 containers and stagger the cultures day by day

frozen BBS works just as good.
as for comparing mbuna eggs to geo eggs there is a huge difference in size :D

will order some frozen foods (need some bloodworm anyway, someone helpfully dumped my last tray out of the freezer.)

what about lobster eggs, the Weidner book states that after 3 weeks the fry should be able to move onto them.

sure you could try it, but i had no problem raising 1000's of geo fry with just Frozen BBS and once big enough move up to crushed NLS flake. enhanced with garlic :D

I'll order a couple packs frozen food, as well as some more NLS (almost finished my 2.27kg bucket)

how soon do you reckon they'll hatch and need food (has been 4 days since they were spawned) temp is 29-30c

congradulations that is so awesome..and i learned alot from this thread about geos and hopefully someday mine will too.. keep us updated..

Very nice fish you have there

good chance they are wigglers now. but i never strip. i wait till the parents dont want to hold them at all anymore which means it could be days of them sucking them in and out of there mouths till they get fed up and get hungry and dont feel like holding anymore. thats when i go in with a net. and if you can get them in a corner the fry will huddle together and with one gentle swoop of the net you can get 99.9% of them

JOefish, u need to get back into breeding tapajos red heads man, ur the source of knowledge. I cant wait til mine get an inch or so bigger, so they can possibly breed. My biggest male is like 3.5 maybe a lil smaller, and my biggest girl is like 2.5 inches.
