Getting rid of fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I see no problem with clearing a little tank space for new fish, as long as it's done in a responsible manner, ie: traded/sold/given to a fellow fish keeper, fed to a larger predator or traded in at a lfs that you know can house/care for the fish until someone gives it a new home.

99% of my fish are with me for life but every once in a while it can be time for a change/removal.

I've personally traded juvie/sub adults in before because they were the extras from a batch of fry I raised to get a pair. I've also given fish to friends that were either getting picked on or causing trouble in my tanks. l'm guilty of feeding some of my smaller fish to my big boys as well in scenarios similar to those above. Of course I feed feeders and don't see the difference in the two, a meal for your monsters is still just a meal be it 1/2" or 12".

plus goldies can survive in far worse conditions, which I believe makes them even more monster. pbass would die in days in those conditions, u cant look at fish fragile as glass as monsters really( not saying pbass are fragile as glass)[/QUOTE

In fishkeeping, the term monster is used to describe something large and/or predatory. A goldfish is neither compared to a bass. Plus, bass are actually real fish unlike goldies which are just a result of line breeding. Its like the difference between a wolf and a poodle. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against goldfish. I just think that there is no comparison between one and a bass.

troll? I like goldies.. and that makes me a troll?and stroll, goldfish contain thiaminese which is bad for ur bass, try another

especially if u look at their relatives... cichla look tiiiny when compared to most carp... cichla are a downgrade, hands down, they are really overrated cichlids, whilst goldfish are manageable versions of beautiful carp

?!?!?!?!?!? What!?! Goldfish get max like 15" while some pbass get like 3' from what I heard! Pbass are 10,000 more monster than goldfish! I don't even own pbass, but the goldfish in my pond are scared of their own shadows!!! Goldfish are used as feeders for pbass(by people who don't know how bad goldies are)!!! The only things less monster than goldfish are like guppies and the such!
