Getting rid of fish

If size is everything then you're right. But it isn't, so you're not.

ps. this isn't Twitter. You can post more that one sentence at a time, and there is an edit button available if you think of something else to add just as you hit the 'Submit' button. Three two-line posts in four minutes is getting a bit silly, calm down;

STOP. THINK. POST.

Yes but we are not talking about cichlids or carp in general, we are talking about specific fish. True, some carp could probably swallow a bass by accident but a goldfish certainly couldn't so your argument is invalid. Goldfish are attractive looking fish and can look great in a proper setup, I don't dispute that but they simply can't compete with a fully grown P bass which is an impressive sight up close to say the least.

I disagree, but I say we move on.. we moved this thread off topic, so ill start by saying getting rid of fish for new ones is ok, as long as it is done in correct circumstances

Correct circumstances is too broad a statement cus there are a lot of different interpretations of what is 'correct'

I train the fish that I don't want to be like the flying piranhas...When unwanted house guest show up, at my command, they fly out of the fish tank, chew and bury themselves deep into the guest's flesh...Problem solved.

Psst. I think this topic is done ;)

A few people on here mentioned killing their fish. I suppose in a way that is no different to feeder fish but I could never do that to my fish myself. Also, I think if someone is keeping an endangered fish then killing it is out of order.

What is everyone's thoughts on getting rid of fish to get new fish?

I know there are some who keep fish for life. They see their fish as a life long companion.

I just want to try new fish out. With all of the different fish out there it isn't feasible to keep a fish for 20 plus years or have 500 tanks for each and every fish because I don't want to give them away.

I have goldfish now in a 180 and I'm thinking of something different. With goldfish it isn't like I can get away with a Pbass or somehting like that. I would make sure they get a good home even if it took months. I feel a little guilty to an extent, but I don't think I should keep a fish for years if I don't enjoy them. Its not like I enjoy the actual tank....its the fish in them.

How does everyone feel about essentially "getting rid of fish" to getting a different kind?

"Fish is food!" That's the fact. Putting a fish in a bowl is a hobby, and it won't turn a fish into pet. There is no one who keeps fish for life. No one can wipe his/her own butt for life. What makes you think that he/she would be able to keep a fish for life? Life gotta be suck for one to see a fish as a life long companion. A dog wags its tail, a cat comes to rub its body on the owner leg. What does a fish do?

People do it all the time! Wouldn't be a fun hobby if you were stuck with the same fish for 25 yrs.
Amen!
