Getting tired of this trend on MFK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I find it annoying when people post the same question over and over again and not use the search tool. Hell you can even search Google and MFK threads come up. That usually irritates me. Also, when the same person asks the same questions and you give them sound advice and they do the complete opposite of what you or others have said. Not saying that my advice is the right way but when more than a few members back you up that's got to be saying something.

My answer still applies. There are a few ways to approach the problem. Either go out of your way to answer as many questions as possible (which leads to burnout or a jaded attitude) or answer none at all, and that doesn't help the hobby. it's important for people to realize that these sites help the hobby and all of the new people that come along and keep the hobby going. Slamming the door in their face is only hurting yourself adn the hobby you enjoy.

Just the way it rolls on the internet.
You need to have thick skin and realize you may be criticized when posting.
Its all related to the medium of communication.

I've notice alot lately when someone opens a thread asking for advice, they get flamed and bombarded with criticism. It seems most people have this "know it all" mentality and waste lots of time and energy flaming people for not doing things their way. And at the same time the ones being criticized do not receive any help or very little helpful advice. When they ask those same people who criticize them for the right way to do it, they further criticize them or just plain skip out on the thread.

EXAMPLE: " Hey is this a good enough filter for my tank?"
" NO its not"
" Ok, whats a good enough filter then?"

At this point you get criticized more for not knowing or they skip out on the person and the person gets no advice. Makes no sense to me. Makes you wonder why people waste their time and energy doing this in the first place. I guess to relieve their frustrations or to stroke their egos.

True, but on the other hand, there are pple who are too lazy to even do a lit research.

I tried to help once and posted up a tread with good info; That person turned around asked me to summerize the post for them....

I see that a lot and I think part of this flaming thing is how the person on the other end reads it. There are no tones on the internet, so it depends on how the person interprets it. I admit, I have interpreted things wrong on the internet, its very easy to do.

I think debating brings about some of the most knowledgeable threads on MFK. Go into the gar forum, we can be pretty harsh in there but almost every thread could be a sticky with the amount of information we amass while arguing with each other.

That said, I don't think blatant insulting is ever necessary, especially to new members.

I guess its just human nature. Some people say "No youre stupid!" where others are able to keep it to "I disagree"

I think this has become worse.. I have had a break from the hobby and mfk.. not to sound old but I think this was less of a problem when I joined.. ofc there were still some occational disputes but it has hit a new level now..
