I don't get it the yellow line just look's like a circle

The idea is that the fish can travel from one tank to the next (am i correct)

how does it work ?

The yellow circle is to highlight a hole in the pipe for fish to enter. There is another one on the other end of the "U." I didn't highlight that one as it can't really be seen at all.

You are correct about the purpose. I was surprised how willing the fish (dwarf cichlids and celestial pearl danios) were to move both directions through the bridge. I was concerned that the pump moving water between the two tanks would cause a current in the bridge that would discourage movement but it didn't seem to matter. I was more concerned about water in the bridge stagnating...

20 minute project + time for PVC glue to dry/cure... not bad!

I thought about building one between a couple tanks, but I would rather do the clear PVC when and if I do it.

I would have rather it been clear PVC as well but this was temporary and that stuff is expensive! If you are considering doing it I would look into acrylic tubing as it won't need to be pressurized to the point PVC is needed.

I was also playing with the idea of making some box tubes and using them to create a water bridge.

Seems that Midnight has missed this so I'll answer on his behalf, The Blue thing you see there is actually a couple of Bungee cords that he uses to hold the lid down tight ;)

the Zip ties are holding a filter which Mightnight has made.. if you look in the bottom of the tub you'll see a small pump which pumps water up the hose into the end of the tube which is filled with various media and then it trickles out the other end... I personally have dubbed this the midnight special :grinno:
lol ya im late
your half right "see above post" zipties not the blue wire :D

midnight- the piping in the pic was up tubes from a ugf so glue wouldn't work, anyways thats all done i've actually finished one of my overflows and soon will get the sump up and running(fingers crossed:D).

i'm also finishing a in tank sump diy on my old 20L which i will post when finished- may break my own rules about looking nice:WHOA: but will still be made out of spare materials

midnight, can you tell me how you made that pvc filter and the media used. I have a fish, that I want to keep in a big rubbermaid like that.
or, if you have a link to when you built it, that would be cool.
thanks a bunch... Im new here at MFK, but been on AC for a while.

My drain from the tank going into a filter sock and its custom holder, my return pump in the middle and the bio filter to the right.

From more of a distance, filter media is bio balls, scrubbie-style netting and a bunch of cut up straws. Don't worry that one hose is out of place.

Water goes from tank into sock filter and then into the sump. From there the return pump will route it to one of three places, 1)bio filter on the right, 2) multi stage micro filter below, 3)back into the display tank above it. Flow is regulated by ball valves.

Here you can see the ball valves and my airpump, side note, any recommendations of an airpump that would be quieter than this whisper model from Petsmart.

Above you can see stage one of the micron filter on the right, filter floss, then it moves to the left a 20 micron filter, stage 3 is this one on the left below then to the final stage on the right, below and back into the sump. I also have space to add purigen that i use to remove tannins from the water.

This is what it looks like all together.

Rubbermaid sump with wood crossbars to keep it in shape.
Of course it is nothing near the level of ghetto as some other stuff in this thread, the whole house filters however were under $10 a piece on clearance so I just had to use them.:headbang2
