Hey we all live and learn. I hope that's the last tank disaster you have. Hopefully glasscages will be willing to help you out somehow.

Hey Bob, when I'm wrong, I'm wrong! I feel so much better now that I know that it was nothing more then my own stupidity, that I am now 100% ready to contact the company with high hopes but abso0lute ZERO expectations!

What in the world would you "hope" the manufacturer would do for you?

Sorry to hear about your tank.

The styrofoam under the tank is designed to protect against pressure points, not level the tank. It is recommended when the bottom glass panel is in direct contact with the stand. It is not needed if the bottom panel is floating (plastic trim along the bottom).

Glasscages may not have the best customer service, and their tanks sometimes have sloppy silicone work, but I think they make pretty decent tanks. They have to be set up differently than the tanks with plastic trim though. The bottom glass panel must be completely supported by a rigid material, with no flexing or bowing in the stand. When you have a tank with a floating bottom panel (plastic trim tanks), you can get away with a stand that bows in the middle, as the weight of these tanks is primarily transferred to the ends of the tank. Not so with a tank where the glass sits directly on the stand- the weight is distributed equally across the stand in this situation. Also, the stands commonly sold at pet stores that only support the aquarium along the edges will not work for glasscages tanks without some modifications. Tanks without a floating bottom need a rigid material under the entire bottom panel to properly support the bottom glass. Any flexing or bowing can cause the tank to break. I think this is where most people run into problems with glasscages tanks.

:irked:

Possibilities:

1. Point me in the right direction as to where t have the tank repaired in my area.

2. Take on repairing the tank at a reasonable price. (I could dop off at the next scheduled Baltimore "pickup date".

3. Exchange the cost of shipping a new 75G (that I would buy from them) for the broken tank. They could repair and resell I suppose!

4. Provide a coupon for (say 10% off my next purchase from them).

I guess that you have never heard of "CUSTOMER SERVICE"! If the absolute best that they can "do for me" is tell me to go get F'd then we will NEVER do business again even though the "incident" was not their fault.

In addition if they are devoid of anything that can be misconstrued for "customer service" I would feel 100% justified to drag their name through the mud in various fish forums. Not only would I feel justified, I would feel ABSOLUTELY OBLIGATED to inform my fellow fish keepers if they could NOT even provide free advice.

All else said, the timeframe that the incident occured in is awefully short and IMO could trigger a "company" that take pride in their work to make "SOME KIND OF ARRANGEMENT" for a customer that has spent four digit American dollars with them! Sheesh, you act like I am going to ask them to swallow the freakin' loss!

I was told that I would recieve the "styrafoam" with the purchase of my three tanks from Glasscages.com dude. I recieved styrafoam for only ONE OF THE THREE tanks from them. Darn shame that they could not follow through on their end of the bargian and part with fifty cents worth of material to "properly" set their "quality" tanks up with. I would think that any company with integrity would NOT tell me to F' myself, but I guess that you obviously do not.

That is exactly what you are asking them to do.
You want them to accept responsibility for your mistake.
You seem to be relatively eloquent and your spelling is decent so I have to assume you read the warranty and installation instructions. If as you say the "styrafoam" wasn't shipped with the tank this would have been a great point to stop and call GlassCages . By choosing not to install as directed by the manufacturer you assume complete responsibility for the tank.
Nothing personal friend but you aren't going to get a lot of sympathy from me.
Man Up. Admit your liability(read mistake)at least to your self. Quit your bellyaching and move along.
Who Knows,If they don't read this thread before you call them they might just "swallow the loss" to appease you and then pass that loss on to their future customers.
You've about talked this thing to death , call them up get your answer.

Sorry, Math and Science were my areas of specialty in college. I am as eloquent as a bull in a china shop and couldn't spell DODO if my life depended on it. I sent them an E-mail briefly detailing the situation. I DID NOT LIE to them and FULLY admitted to not 100% following the setup instructions.

All that I ask of them is advice in the area of repair, or to allow me to F'ing BUY another tank from them FULL PRICE, and exchange the broken 90 tall for the price of shipping! I asume that they know how to either repair the tank or salvage the three side and bottom panes that are still good. Jimmany Crickets, the glass used is sold on their site at $21 per square foot! That is several hundred dollars of undamaged glass to them that is worthless to me (as a fishtank) in it's current state that I am asking to trade for the price of shipping ~ $50, in addition to MORE business.

I'm not going to "swallow" the loss either! Worst case scenario. They tell me to get bent, just like you are, and I give my money to their competition and warn all about my "bad" experience with their company! I doubt that they will be as uncaring as you are, but I will keep everyone informed.

I have been wanting an emerald tree boa for a while now anyway. If they try to dry hump me, then I got $700 in my pocket for a little beauty and a nice large glass cage already set up for it!

Good move.

This would be a smart business move for them.

I asume that they know how to either repair the tank or salvage the three side and bottom panes that are still good. Jimmany Crickets, the glass used is sold on their site at $21 per square foot! This is impractical from a business point of view. They don't sell used/remanufactured tanks any more than they sell salvaged glass. If they take you up on your proposal of "Free" shipping on your next purchase then they will be out the cost of one tank and the cost of shipping it as they are not likely to want to pay to ship the broken tank back.

I'm not going to "swallow" the loss either! Worst case scenario. They tell me to get bent, just like you are, and I give my money to their competition and warn all about my "bad" experience with their company!
I'm not telling you to "Get Bent", I'm suggesting you take responsibility for your actions and not attempt to lay it off on someone else. When I screw up I admit it ,at least to myself, and learn from the mistake. If more people adopted this mentality the cost of goods and services would drop dramatically as businesses would not have to deal with this crap nor would they have to pay huge premiums for liability policies to protect them from frivolous litigation.

I doubt that they will be as uncaring as you are, but I will keep everyone informed.
 Good Luck

I'm going to stroll into Walmart this afternoon and get a new 46" Sony Bravia XBR for my family room.

I'm going to choose to ignore the directions supplied with the TV stating not to mount close to a heat source because I want to mount it over my fireplace. I don't have a lot of clearance because I bought such a big TV, but I'm going to mount it there anyway because that's what I want to do.

It got below freezing here in South Carolina and it is going to be cold all day today, so I'm going to have a blazing fire in the fireplace tonight so my toes can be warm while I watch my new TV.

Tomorrow's going to be a great day for me because I'll get up, notice the melted bottom of the TV, fly off the handle and badmouth Walmart on the internet. Then I'm going to march down there and expect them to compensate me in some way just to make me happy.

If they don't, I'm going to get back on the internet and bad mouth them some more.

They better make me "f-n" happy is all I'm saying. I don't care that I deserve not one thing from Walmart, because I want some sort gratification for my own carelessness.
