Agree with rmorse and his no doubt awesome girlfriend.

If the oceanic currents were to stop, how quickly would this happen. Would is be a slow change that eventually diminishes to nothing or a sudden stop.

If we had an ice age it might freeze over canada or worse the whole U.S and europe. Let's just hope for canada though:).

I'd give it around .034 seconds...:)

This scenario is only if Stewie Griffin's Machine doesn't freeze over Canada first...:D

Ice core data indicates that oceanic circulation shut down could happen in a fairly short amount of time, with little or no warning, resulting in a quick onset of an ice age-like climate change... it has happened before. The data also shows the process is sometimes reversible, but not always.

would ocean currents ceasing mean that the hot areas get hotter and the cold get colder? instead of overall cooling?

Bring it on! We're half frozen most of the year as it is. A couple more months won't phase us! :headbang2

And you still woudn't be able to have asian aros!!!

knew this was coming from the king edward of england after he replied to my post in another thread, honestly big temp fluctuations in the earths history have happened alot, still not good with all the crap we put in the air, people dont really care though, all talk and no walk, all 3 cars in my family get over 30 mpg, america and china could be the criminals in killing our world with all the shiot we put in the air, what ever theres alot of things i dont understand about this world powered by greed and this whole problem is one of them

Its not "what should to to stop global warming" it should be "what should we be doing to live with global warming" Stopping man made global warming just isn't going to happen with the flick of a switch and doing so would crush the global economy for MANY years. A better approch would be to slowly cut back what we pollute and find ways to live with the warming. Personally I believe that our co2 output is a small part of the warming, I think most of it is coming from that big "furnace" in the sky called the sun and its odd solar cycles.

When people were saying the world was flat, it was in no way a theory, it was a hypothesis based solely on an overactive imagination, not on facts. Supporters of global warming, whether skeptics like it or not, can atleast provide facts that support their theory...

I wasn't saying it was exactly the same, its just very similar. People wanted to explain why ships didn't come back, and they say "i bet the world is flat". People want to explain why its getting 1-2 degrees hotter over the 150 years that they have kept track of temperatures. Its not global warming. Also people, we are talking about Global Warming not as its broken down in simplest form which is the earth getting warmer, we are talking about the man made effect that is causing it, which i personally believe is complete BS.

The sun actually will get hotter and cooler over decades, and i believe between the sun burning a little hotter, normal temperature fluctuation and some other natural things for a planet to do are the reasons behind the Earth getting on average around 1-2 degrees warmer over the past 2 centuries.

I don't see how you can look at all of these factors and simply think "Al Gore was right". You guys are chasing after a Manbearpig and I'll give you a hint, you aren't going to find one anytime soon.

And to those of you who say there’s no need to do anything about global climate change because ‘global warming’ will just correct itself with an onset of an ice age, consider this: Ice ages are the number one cause of mass extinction. Humans are not exempt from extinction.

Yes, it's true that the media likes to get the public worked up about things like this, but in my opinion, people who have the raw data in front of them and still refuse to admit that humans play any part in global climate change are the definition of ignorance.

Ummmm... that is not correct, but some of what you said is kind of true...

While there are no firm answers, a three-page study in the May 11 issue of the journal Science adds modestly to a mounting stack of reports suggesting that asteroids and comets are the leading cause of terrestrial death, delivering immensely fatal blows every 100 million years or so that wipe the slate of life frighteningly close to clean in remarkably rapid fashion.
