Go to Heck marineland ! Goshdarnit !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I feel for you, I had a Stealth split open and kill my 20" Pangasius. It was about a year old. I have another in a different tank that I need to replace ASAP.

Does anyone have the number to call if you have a bad stealth?

is the reason that there are so many stealth problems because of the fact that until recently, there was no indicator light?

I am thinking that without the light, most of us many not realize they were stuck 'on' until it is too late. I know I probably wouldn't..

I know I never made the switch to the Stealth mainly because of the light (and the fact that Marineland has yet to put out a product that I actually like), but the new ones have lights now.

for those that like the fact that the Stealth is not made of glass, this might be a better option - one of the newer stealths with the light.

myself, I use heater guards (the Hagen ones fit perfectly) over the Ebo Jagers to guard against heater smashing fish.

I had a 200W stealth go bad - - overheated so much it cracked - - but I caught it before any fish died . . . since I'm in Florida, I decided to go w/o heaters on most of my tanks, and keep cichlids that can tolerate temps that average 73-77, which I can maintain consistently even w/o heaters

only exception is my Blue Ram tank, which I want to keep at 84, and I have a stealth in that tank . . . I check the temp every morning and every evening, making sure it's not going haywire; I don't trust it, and will probably end up getting an Ebo rather than put my Rams at risk . . .

my 2 cents or 3?
I have only had one Stealth go bad on a service account. it just fell apart & quit working. We use to sell ViaAqua which was pretty good & still use some without problems then I had some customers start to complain & return them. So I started to push the Stealths because of the reviews early on & now reading this & I have had a couple customers stated they quit working? They are suppose to automatically shut off!
Ebo back in the day were the best heaters by far, then Eheim picked it up & for awhile people were having a lot of problems them going bad, I know because I tried them again & they failed. Maybe now they are better again?
But these damn company's need to get their Head out of their *** & make good heaters period since it is a major life support of our aquatic animals. I have been in business/hobby now for over 30 years & you would think they would get it right by now. These giant companies seem to always look for the cheapest way to make something then charge a arm & a leg for it. I could on & on about products we have had or tested. I typically try a lot of new stuff before selling it because if it sucks I'm not selling it if I would not use it.
The quality of some these products (Marineland/Perfecto) & others is getting pathetic. And any employee working at their factories etc.. that let something go out the door sub par should get a kick in the arse! I have as many others have a lot of $ investing in our aquarium hobby/business to deal with crappy products.
Do it right the first time or don't do at all!

okay i'm done for now. :)
me Dave
Thanks Dave very well said ! Especially when you consider the cost of these heaters when purchased in a store a 200 watt visi therm stealth is around 43 dollars here.

All of my heaters were in the reccomended size or smaller to Marineland and worked fine until their apparent meltdown.

Thanks again and well put Dave ,

I agree some people get the short end of the stick or draw the wrong straw and I am clearly one of them. If my experience is any indication of their product quality they will either be revamping EVERYTHING or discontinuing their new line soon. Somehow I doubt 80% of their heaters fail in the first year. Just my luck :screwy:

Also yes I don't think there is anything more horrifying than having healthy fish die to being fried :(

As for the heat controller its in the works as funding allows.

Stuff happens, it's really the luck of the draw. I mean some products are better quality than others, but who's to say they wont have their downfalls as well...........

I had one do this exact same thing only the crack was bigger and there was two of them. I always though it was odd when I stuck my hand in the tank and my fingers would tingle but I could never put my finger on why. I guess it's partially my fault for not looking closer but come one what would have made it crack besides poor craftsmanship.

Although I never had anything die from it. So that's a plus.

Sorry for your loss. Indeed that is very frustrating to say the least. Please learn from it though as it was likely preventable with the proper equipment.

Well worth the investment!!

I purchased one of these, and I am NOT impressed.

The temperature readout is not accurate. The hotter it gets the more it looses accuracy. What is 1 degree out at 25 degrees becomes 2 degrees out at 30. . It was measured against 4 other thermometers and all the others read within 0.2 of a degree of each other.

The reminder function and alarm work ok.

where did you get the heaters(marineland visi therm) from?
