Gold or black wolf?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm trying to find the mala papers lol. Only cytogenetic stuff popping up for me.

Understand the only species it can be from the lac group is australis, the rest, from what we know, have the U shaped under jaw. But having 6 pores discloses australis. The wolf in question certainly doesn't have, it has a V. Again the folds only touch on small specimens. Like 5" and under. You can consider other species in the mala group like microlepis etc.

Mala is said to have many species under it due to so much variation. I find it hard to believe mala only has 4 pores. Can't say I recall seeing that.

It gives the ways to differentiate from mala at the bottom, this hints to me at least that the pores are the same.
If the pores were different it would have said imo dude?
It's 11pm here I'm up at 530am for workandim trawling through scientific papers... What does this hobby do to me!?

That says microlepis has 4.

Only thing it says about mala is they have the same dentary shape as microlepis.
Pores are the same between mala and microlepis. Only difference is scale counts and collection area.

Mala have only 4 pores. The ones that are the issue are intermedius. It’s been noted that intermedius weren’t able to be properly identified initially because it was always thought to be mala. Similar catch locations as well as isolated areas and folds are similar. Scale counts differ some and pores can range 4-6 for intermedius. Intermedius has a angular head and pattern is different.

Counts can vary as you see for lac 6-8. And it isn't about mala so I wouldn't expect it but I see what your saying.

Here's for micro

Here's a write up on intermedius and mala
