Goliath update...

Really bummed to hear the news Phil.

I've never suggested this in the past but someone should organize a moment of silence for this iconic fish..... Not many fish out there that serve as mascots for this site, but this fish definitely fits.... A loss we all should recognize.

My heart goes out to you man - loosing special fish is something I think only your fellow die hards can understand..... "Normal" people are clueless what it takes to raise such an iconic fish - the freshwater great white - and ANYONE that can raise one to this size deserves special recognition for the investment of time, money, knowledge, patience, and perseverance, and most of all enough dedication to respecting the fish enough to insure the tank revolved around him - year after year.

I think I speak for us all when I say you did an outstanding job raising this LEGEND.
Damn brother I don't know what to say.....I'm a big mouth and rarely do I find myself speechless but u did that to me my man! I REALLY appreciate the kind and sole lifting words. Believe me I was beyond heartbroken to lose that guy after a 10 year investment to make sure I learned and implemented those lessons to make sure he didn't survive but thrived. I sacrificed long vacas, additional fish to add to the tank, resources, time and emotions because that g.d. creature kept me on my toes 24/7 there wasn't a day off for me and my family thought I was nuts and out of my mind as he got bigger the more demanding of my time, patience and support! I truly was blessed the have the beast of the east (Africa) in my backyard to look at and enjoy any time I wanted to and now that he is gone I find myself lost and push myself to stay enthusiastic for the hobby because I still have a group of fish that still need my attention and deserve the same I gave him, even though he was the heavyweight of that aquarium and for the next person that finds this forum and goes thru a similar situation and needs some encouragement to keep going. I know nothing different then taking care of a tiger every day for the past 10 yrs(7 with him) and now I feel a sense of relief that I did the best job I could and even if I believe I could have done more, the kind words and sincerity from you guys on here and on fb have aided in the healing of my broken heart...... I hope this doesn't discourage anyone from attempting to tame the tiger 😆 so hopefully my past few years of posts someone can use as a road map for their own journey with this true RIVER MONSTER........

For what its worth - when I lost my Last Tanzy Tiger I wrote off keeping Hydrocynus. I get the appeal - I just don't have the kind of environment needed after experiencing their lust for speed and piss poor brakes. IF I wrecked my dream car I wouldn't write off cars, I would just gravitate towards some with better brakes......

I really think there's a fish out there that you should experience. By experience I mean keep - all the pics in the world do nothing for fish as they all have very different attitudes.... That fish is Dorado. I can't say enough about them. Once you experience them you'll understand.

IF you have any questions about them at all hit me up......

Hope things are gradually getting better man! :)

I agree once u get a bad taste in ur mouth it tends to sway one away from certain things. Regardless I am interested in a dorado but the true not the Franky or hilari but the brazi and from what a few people told me almost all that are available today are the Franky not brazis. I'm hopeful one day some will come available or I find someone selling theirs but in the mean time I have a trio of pb coming to me next week. A pair of 12"+ fogo and 11" temensis. The start of my pb rabbit hole. I need some easy fish after the 7 year stint for the gatf. Regarding providing the appropriate environment I had to give up a dream fish of mine that I raised to a sizable animal along with a plat gator and their 300 gal to fund the cylinder tank so I could fulfill my goal of raising a big ass gatf! What u said about me regarding the dedication for the tiger those words are correct and very true but it's the doing it every day, day in and day out for 7 years that really defined exactly what it takes to achieve a big tiger!

This guy has a group for sale

IF it was ME looking for Brassies - there's only one source - Wes (fugupuff).

That's the only place I trusted. Have had them twice and both times it was from Wes.

P bass and rays are a rough mix..... Hard to get food down to rays without a tube or something...... For this reason I won't keep them.

Only other monster I'd ever consider capable of filling the Tiger void would be Aimara. They are definitely another experience - not a fish, an experience..... ;) I've never experienced so much aggression, yet also very passive - like a rabid guard dog.

I have the one big Leo and I will definitely supplement the pb with pellets. I have plenty of the floating stix so they should be able to get their fill in. It's really their eating action I'm looking for and excitement. As far as a wolf goes, I already have one in there, a lacerdae that's been with me now over 2 yrs. He is a very chill holpias and only gets excited for the first few pieces of fish and some of the pellets and has some what of a sinister look to him. I'm going with a trio for now and hope to get more but I want to see where it goes first. If I stay with just those three I'll be happy because they have some room to grow that's for sure lol. Regarding the dorado I'll see what he gets on since I so speak with him once in a while but he has teamed up with a friend of mine in Cali so basically whatever he gets so does he in a way. Hopefully I can source a really nice true golden that would be amazing to grow out to as big as I possibly can!!!

Horrible news but you gave that fish a good life and grew it to an impressive size.
