I found the perfect cycling animal for any fish tank...she wasn't too happy at first but a few bricks tied to her feet settled her nice on the sand.

JUST KIDDING!

Gonna scoop out the large chunks of Eco-Complete on the sand so it doesn't look like crap.

Quick question for you bro.... what happens if your power goes out? Your return seeing as how it is about 8" underwater is going to turn into a syphon and your floor is going to be a pool........ did that make any sense???? Wait, I'll ask you later......

Love the setup though!!!!!!!

nice man. Did you soak the driftwood prior to filling ? Tank looks great either way congrats on a job well done .

lookin good...

i think a few small java-fern type plants scattered in there would really look nice. :)

I'm gonna put in like 5 Amazon Swords cuz I am a plant noob along with being a fish noob. I will be using 4 of the 10,000k (28watt) T5 lights.

Nope, put the wood in the tank with the sand and filled 'er up. When you buy it and it says "this will sink" you would think floating wasn't an option...:screwy:

Just got reminded twice that I should really invest in a check valve for the return line so I don't create a pool in my house when the electricity goes out. My girlfriend showed me this website http://www.flexpvc.com and I noticed cheap bulkhead fittings along with braided hose. This tank has been running for 2 days and might alread be getting a makeover! Some mistakes made that I see now and want to fix before I get fish in the tank. Thank god pvc is cheap:nilly:

make sure you test that check valve occasionally. They like to stick in the 'leaky' position when they get coated with biofilm. Sweet build.

he asked you this because that drift wood looks like it leached tannis into your tank. (That brown colored tea water) Driftwood will leak that for 2 weeks , into your tank. People soak the wood so that it doesnt diss color the water. Although you dont have to, it has no health affects on your fish , people say its actually more natural. I dont know if you knew that just thought id let you know just in case :)

You can take it out and soak it for two weeks in the tub or bucket changing the water every 2 days , or just let it finish leeching in your tank. Probly 2 months of water chaning and then you will have clear water.

good build.
