right on :) except tannins will leach into the tank for alot longer than 2 weeks.. ive had tanks that have been tan for over 4 months now :P

run some heavy carbon on that hoe! and do more on your water changes!! i just put 300 pounds of driftwood in my tank and im going to have to do the same thing :irked:.it was to big to soak

Hi all,

Replying to a few comments about the driftwood. We knew that it was going to leach out tannis, and actually want the discolored water. Red bellies will be occupying the tank and so we dont mind so much that the water will be dis colored. On a further note, tank cleared up nicely and we are starting to cycle it with tiger barbs (fingers crossed that they will work out nicely)

Can you find the barbs?? :naughty:

I came home from work today and found a few of the poor fellas in the overflow, so they were rescued and a temporary barrier installed. ;)

HAHA I should probably go get my phone from my car, I bet you text me about it earlier. I just dumped the barbs in there this afternoon before work. I figured they would be fine seeing as they usually stay at the bottom of the tank.

is it just me or..

haha, made me chuckle.

good choice on piranhas though for the tank! cant go wrong with a shoal of red bellys.

If you are started with ~1 in rb's I would suggest getting more than 10 though. Start with 20 or so in that tank and thin them out after a year or so. they will thin them selfs out a little bit, and any others you can sell off.

I was gonna go for the aquascapeonline deal...12 reds for $50 but I think now with how small 12 tiger barbs look in the tank I might get that deal x2. Start with 24 reds and sell a bunch off when they get to a good size. Overall I really want 10 reds to be the only inhabitants in the tank.

good choice. tanks is 60x24? I read the whole thread and saw in the beginning 24x24 piece of glass for the side didnt catch how long it was going to be.

I would grow the 24 reds until they are at least 6 inches before deciding to downsize. I have 13 (around 4-6 in) in a 72x18 right now and adding 3 caribe to the mix on friday. Wont start thinking about downsizing (or getting a bigger tank) until they are all over 7 inches...

get them on pellets and a variety early and you wont regret it.
