supply and demand. if more people buy at high prices they don't mind paying (in a way ruining the last joy of owning a beautiful ray at nice price) then the price will stay. but then again, throw your price out on your ray and no one pics it up, the rule is to lower or keep the holding cost.
as for which is nicer, isn't it just all preference. joke or no joke is an honest opinion and seriously what hits ur eyes and ur brain goes "wow" and jaws drops!!
NO purpose comparing like someone said apples and oranges. So my preference is marbles.

The real question is, would you sell your AAA marbles for a black straight across?? would you consider selling your marbles for a black straight across then sell the black and go on a hunt for a cheaper AAA marbles and get two!!.. just a thought.. hmmm.

wat you think craig.

elvan, you are amongst the few who have witnessed my marble collection..you know i like my blacks but some of the marbles are undenyably beautiful..just near impossible to find what people call AAA quality.i just paid 900 bucks for what i consider an AA quality mm female at 10" and would buy more if i could find them.

How bout posting some pics so that we know what a $900 AA looks like?

I couldn't agree more about the rediculous pricing. IF it is going to continue like this I will just sell off my entire collection at these stupid prices and find a new hobby.......

Have rays always been like politics?

I do not agree with this at all, if your paying same price for AAA marble as any black rays you are getting ripped off.

:iagree:

How could a certain price be a rip off...if people are willing to pay those prices? Its just like anything else...if you have it to spend, and its what you want, why not buy it. If the look you want is hard to come by, and someone has the look you want, the extra 3-4-5 hundred bucks might be worth it to the particular individually. Some of us might morally have a problem with this but is this not the type of society in which we live? It is grandiose to say "if we stop paying the high prices, the prices will go down." Someone will always be willing to pay the high price as money to some is of no consequence. It is very difficult to put a price on desirability. Even when I talk to friends who are well off, or they come by and see my rays, the have a conniption at the concept of a $100 fish...less know a 2-3-4-500 dollar fish. We are all crazy about fish...just some more than others. I.E. I would never pay more than $5.00 for any grade of FH as I am not the least bit attracted to this fish. But some pay well into the hundreds for a high grade FH. To each his own. I personally like the "black and white" of black rays. So trying to compare the "black and white" to the many variations of MM is (IMO) not a fair comparison. We should be comparing the variations of all potamotrygons...that is a more fair comparison. Afterall, we get stoked on the physical appearance (i.e. patterns and designs) of the rays, no matter which variant...from a motoro/mantilla cross, to a BD or eclipse.

Ive always said it, in the ray market, and the fish hobby in general...the BUYERS set the prices, NOT the sellers. Dont blame the sellers for high prices.

I do believe there are more average leos in the US then stellar MMs and if they were the same price Id choose the MM over a leo anyday.

As for the whol A,AA,AAA thing. I dont know what qualifies as what but I think most people can spot an outstanding marble vs a normal marble.

What really interests me with marbles is that I think they could be the ultimate "designer" ray. No need to hybridize MMs, with time, I think some OUTSTANDING MMs could be produced with selective breeding. MMs have such variable patterns so who knows what could be produced!

Excatly. Price won't drop if people keep buying.

the new prices of marbles that are showing up are a rip off....

I agree, I actually so a statement by someone who said he would not let his 9" Marble go for under 2000. It was nice but non are worth even close to that.
People get caught up in the craze or fad of a certain fish and have to have one. So then they are willing to spend whatever it takes to get it.
Personally I have been keeping fish for 20 + years and have never got into
keeping fish cause it is fashionable. I keep a certain species because it
appeals to me, not because its in vogue.
If it is truly a rare species then you are talking about a different matter.

How can you define "worth"?

So this guy has a nice marble that it would take 2000 dollars for him to get rid of. In other words that ray is "worth" $2000 to him. Now some one may really want that ray and decide its "worth" $2000 to him and he drops the change.

The guy that just bought that $2,000 MM invites his millionaire friend over. Rich friend looks at the ray and says, "I wouldnt pay two cents for no stankin fish!" so does that mean the ray is "worth" less then two cents now?

OK Not worth it in my Eyes.:) But just to be clear I would not pay 2000 for any Marble.
