A bigger tank is better but if you only have a 55 that will work. So, yes you can keep one GT in a 55 gallon tank but limited to how you decorate the tank, so no big rocks as your center piece or big pieces of drift wood. Your aquarium will need to be as open as possible. The most important is water quality. You must do weekly water changes and have a good filtration system. Most local pet store GT s max out a 9 inches.

quite a few if given the tank size, water changes, good diet they should reach atleast 10'' in 2 years easily.... the one in my avatar was purchased last january at 2'' and is now pushing 7.5'' even if hes not good looking or has good genes he was purchased at my lfs and he seems to still be growing..Evilking;4826270;4826270 said:

I have a 75 US gallon (290litre) tank with a pair of GTs M is 4" and F is 3.5" there is also a full grown pair og convicts in the tank which are dominant to the GTs. wil I need to rehouse either pair as the GTs grow. There are a lot of hiding places and filtration is via 2 1000lph externals.
I wouldn't put a GT in a 55 unless it ends up being a grow out tank. Have thought about maybe getting an ebjd, they are perfect for 55s plus they are beautiful fish if properly taken care of.
