Green Terror with sunken belly. HELP PLEASE!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Still no results. Where exactly can I get some levamisole? From what I understand it’s not really a common drug.

In the US it is marketed as cattle dewormer. There's a brand called Prohibit. Be aware that there is dosing of levamisole HCL for the aquarium that is going around the internet that is at least 6 times higher than the dosage recommended by the fish vet Roy Yanong. Use the 2ppm dosing and instructions from this site. https://www.loaches.com/Members/shari2/levamisole-hydrochloride-1.

I’ve finished metro treatment as well as levamisole. Still has a sunken belly and his poo is still white/clear most of the time. At this point I have no clue what to do. I just treated some food with metro and I’ll just hope for the best.

Then soak the food in some Epsom salt solution for now. Wait it out and hope it gets better with time. Can always try converting and keeping a black water tank with a low ph. Most bacteria and parasites won’t grow in a low ph. Might help to reduce any active and colonizing pathogens. Just a thought.

Forgot to update. He was better for a while with no clear stringy poop, and then it came back again so I started medicating once again. That’s as about a month or two ago and I have t really seen any stringy poop in a while now. I actually don’t see much poop from him at all honestly I only notice it when cleaning the tank and it’s usually the correct color. Here is a picture of him. Do you guys think he’s all better now? Also I got him last December and he was about 2-3 inches long. He’s now about 4.5-5 inches long. Maybe a tad longer. Is that normal growth and size for a green terror that’s about a year and a few months old?

Looks much better compared to the pics on page 1. Not sure about the growth but good that’s it’s bigger.

No, they are usually bigger at that age, but after what he's been through, it's normal that it slowed down his growth. Is he eating pellets now? If not, you could try feeding him Omega One's frozen cichlid formula, it works great with picky fishes. I would really recommend examining his feces with a microscope to see if he still has parasites.

He does if he’s really hungry. He’ll eat the occasional one or two pellets. But he’s started eating crisps(flakes but a lot thicker) which are high in protein. I’m about to start another round of medication just in case.

I’d be careful with medicating. You don’t want to do more damage by blindly treating.

I see there is a jack in there. What other tank mates? Looks like someone laid a bunch of eggs. Cory’s?

The only time I’ve had issues with these guys is when they are stressed. His fins look good, but have you noticed him hiding a lot? Staying near the surface, darting around to avoid tankmates?

No he’s the alpha in the tank lol and I just have 2 blue acara one electric and one not (the fish in the picture). He’s constantly moving around the tank and chases the other fish pretty often. And he’s always excited to eat his food. And yeah I know. I haven’t medicated in a few weeks since he last showed any signs of being ill. So I thought I’d do one more dose just to be sure any eggs or anything else possibly in the tank gets taken care of. And believe it or not those eggs are all from berries lol
