Growing up blue

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Did you have them since they were babies?

Mine are pretty small, approximately an inch...they are showing blues, greens, yellows but no orange or red.

What size did yours start showing the orange and red?

I got mine about the same size 1in. Neither had orangeish colors on thier bellies. About when they got to 1.5 inch they changed to adult colors, and started to try and breed.

Here they are when I first got them 20180617_190054.jpg

Yours may be a bit stressed still.

Oh they look very similar!

This makes me happy I was doubting hey were true hrp’s bc of the lack of red and orange

Mine have not shone the black convict bars quite like yours do. Maybe due to the JDs in the tank. Mine have only been with some same size Blue Acura, never a fish bigger than them, cichlid wise.

My favourite one has broken barring and an all over shine (kind of like unicorn white/blue shine, hard to describe and even capture in photo)

The jacks now have a new couple name...I’m calling them Al and Peggy Bundy....Al has been pouty and just lazy since the HRPs have been added to the tank. Peggy is out and about quite a bit!

The HRPs are quite comical, I’m enjoying them...

Little update, I sold off my extra ebjd this past Friday, I am now down to al and Peggy, my 33g tank only has a bn Pleco now...hope he can keep the tank cycled by him self...

Al and Peggy made a minor appearance tonight so I snapped some pics of them, Peggy is always out cruising the tank since the hrp joined, al mostly hangs out in the driftwood cave

The hrp are doing well, theee of them might be females as they are very blue and two might be males, the two maybe males have a white shine to them..def my favorite two. Sometimes they annoy the mollies and the mollies will in turn chase and try to nip the hrp.

Al and Peggy still shown no interest in breeding...They are in day two of frozen food, we will see if that puts them in the mood.

What I would do..
Move the cons to the 33, that can be thier forever home. Get them some Serpae tetras as dithers. Then get some Swordtails as dithers for the JD's.

Hats not a bad idea, i was thinking about moving the hrp over but haven’t made a decision yet....I def won’t be adding any more fish to my current stock unless it turns out to be jd babies

Al seems like he might be getting in a frisky mood tonight, his colors are darkening and he’s posing for Peggy quite a bit...he keeps moving towards her but she turns on her side almost to avoid him, but then will follow him back to the cave and leave and hang around outside the cave...

One of the HRPs look like they are getting a pink tone in the abdomen area, again hard to photograph
