Just go with less light, they will be way more active. My four gulpers swim around all day long :)

once again.. light isn't the answer... i don't use my light during the day. its lights out all day long then at night when i feed i turn on the light and they come out to eat.. then when their done eating they go back to hiding.. no matter if the light is on or not.. their just really lazy..lol

my plan is the best idea.. IMO.. it will give constant stimulation.. a reason to come out of hiding: FOOD!!.. it really is the only reason they come out in the first place, remember?

if you fill the tank with food, you will never see them. They will eat when they want too, not necessarily when your watching. I think that, even though you refuse to believe it, your lighting is the problem. If you only turn it on when you feed them, and you only feed them sparingly by your own admission, you are giving them no "cycle". They have no idea when this bright light is going to turn on again. Also, they are ambush predators, and catfish. They hide, thats what they do.

ok, so what do u suggest i do? :nilly:

remember, my original plan was to use the guppies to liven up the gulpers OR at least liven up the tank.. so either way my plan to breed fish for that tank is a go.. i will achieve at least one of the things i set out to do!

You could always take out the decorations, haha.

that's one of best ideas i have heard so far.. i could always replace the decorations with something they cant hide in..

(ill save this idea as a last resort)

that's the thing with so many cool fish, they are either really lazy, nocturnal, ugly or waste makers.

yah!!

most monster fish fall under one or more of those categories..
