Funny, I just posted saying that some one else had the worse advice, I think you may have gotten that title now!

Use a weapon for one readon and one reason only to take a life in self defense. The reason why personal defense loads are so deadly is because a dead guy cant shoot back. Also a dead guy cabt falsely accuse you of something you didnt do and putting you in prison.

If a situation arises where a gun is needed, it wont be needed for intimidation and it wont be needed to injury some one. Guns are deadly weapons and use just for that. Period.

Picture this: Someone breaks into my basement. I hear them, grab my shotgun, and start heading down. I cock it, hear the guy say "oh ****", and hear him leave. I continue down, and make a sweep of the room, then my house. See he has completely left, and then call the cops.


I would prefer this, then:

Someone breaks into my basement. I hear them, grab my gun, sneak downstairs, and blow their head off.


Granted, both get the job done. I also see what you are saying where the second scenario guarantees the man will not be back to kill me. I think I prefer the first scenario.


However, that being said, I will not hesitate to blow his head off if I get to the basement with my cocked shotgun, and see he is still in my home.

of course you cant just shoot somebody in self defense and go on your merry way. youll get questioned up the wazoo, theyll take your gun, and you may have to testify.

but if its a classic home invasion and you kill someone in self defense for fear of your own life, its justifiable. youll come out clean.

but if they guy runs out of your house and you chase him down the street and then kill him on the sidewalk, then thats a different story. im sure youll be facing charges then

What I would do after I heard a basement window bust out and intruder entering;

Grab weapon and call 911 or have spouse call; secure family in safe place and wait. I wouldnt go after intruder. If intruder approaches I would yell a command for him to stop and immediately leave but NEVER indicate I had a weapon (that indication could cause intruder to ready his weapon if he already hasnt), if intruder continues to approach and after positive identification (very very important) all best are off and lead starts flying.

probably the best thing you could do is get everyone in one room and call the cops and if they come to that room you are prepared to use force
I would much rather them take my stuff than I take their life

because say they are an average dad and with the recession they need money, dad goes and steels some tvs to feed his family
you come out kill him and what now some family has to face the fact that one their dad is a criminal and he is now dead
I would much rather the family to just have to face the fact that their dad is a theif

also I have taken firearms course including hunting/safety and handgun course

What do you mean by "positive identification"? Just making sure it isn't a friend/family member, or making sure they have a weapon?

Youre are the mercy of your state's laws.

In castel doctorine states such as mine, ANY felony committed in your private dwelling is grounds for DF rather the perp is armed or not.
