good article. just goes to show the bad guy usually ends up being the "good guy"

Before we proceed you need to realize an important issue: In the American court system, life is normally given priority over property.

etc etc etc

Wow. good read, but now I feel like I can't really protect myself in my home...

yeah i know. its a scary idea that you could spend a few years in prison cause you tried to defend yourself and your family

I just want to say that this has been a great thread (for the most part). :headbang2

As someone who is looking to buy a new shotgun for hunting, and also a home defense weapon (previously just handguns) this thread has been informative and again for the most part very cordial. Well done guys!

Move to a state with sensible laws such as the castel doctorine or elect leaders to have those crappy laws changed.

I remember a couple years ago when Florida enacted their castel doctorine and the media was talking about how Florida would now be like the wild west and people will be shooting each other left and right because of it. The whole time I was thinking, well dang, we must be missing somehting here in KY cause we have the castel doctorine laws and none of that happens here. The only change is that normal law-abiding citizens now have a law that protects them in these extreme cases.

well being in CA, i think moving is the only option. too many liberals out here. things will only get worse, not better, for gun owners :(

By common law, some self defense in Maryland requires duty-to-retreat. Maryland at present, has no "Castle Doctrine" exception set down in statutory law per se, [1] but does have case law indicating duty to retreat does not apply when attacked in one's home. Other exceptions to duty to retreat are being the victim of a robbery, situations where the imminent peril of attack makes retreat impossible or retreat would not remove the danger (i.e. a physically injured or disabled person trying to flee from an able-bodied attacker). See Marquardt v. State, 164 Md. App. 95, 140 (2005). See also Sydnor v. State, 365 Md. 205, 216, A.2d 669, 675 (2001).

What does this mean? Wiki isn't clear on the whole "retreat, duty to retreat" etc. laws...
