And you're right, any intruder that walks into your house and hears you chamber a round in a pump shotgun will run like hell if he knows what's good for him..
Just letting you know it's a lot easier and quicker,more rounds as well,and easy to shove in another clip.
I think a shotgun is a great choice for home defense. of couse like you say, the sound of a shotgun being cocked is enough to send some bad guys running. next, you have the devastating power of its round. loaded with the right type of ammo, a shotgun is very effective at what it does.
for home defense shotguns, im partial to the Remington 870. I have one and i love it. i dont like the mossbergs or winchesters. they just dont look as good as the remington. the remington is rock solid and built like a tank.
as for price, theyre usually in the $320 range. Big 5 often has sales for below $299. you cant go wrong with this shotty!

I'm sure I will end up getting both....I like the look of Glock's.
My biggest problem though, is I am only going by looks. Which is why I am asking advice from you guys.

here's my 870 with a few add-ons. before anybody says anything about the tacticool flash hider, its functional i swear!!! i have a longer mag tube that hold 7 rounds in it. it extended past the barrel about 2" and i didnt like the way it looked, so i added the flash hider to make the barrel look longer than the mag.
also, ive pretty much sold everything pictured on this gun in the last few days. its getting an extensive remodel. stay tuned for pics in the next few days
