Salty dragons=Japanese/Hawaii Dragon Moray Eels.

"The Other Side"= Saltwater

I'm a huge fan of Morays...downfall is the Dragons are way expensive and most other morays get HUGE.....The ones that don't get huge and aren't Dragons are pretty tough to find.......Been looking for a Viper for about a year longer than I was huntin for an Armatus......Almost 2 years now.

well worth it...but like DB said very fast grower, very territorial ect ect...but very worth it...mine is @ 8" already:

DM, I just got off of the phone with RW and paid for my guy and he will be here either tomorrow night or Tuesday morning!!! I CANT WAIT!

Yours has grown FAST!

I cant wait till he is a beast and kicks out his other tank mates!

Ok guys I need some tips to be prepared for when he arrives.

He will be going into my 125 with an 8" Indo dat, 8" Red-tail payara, 8" Silver Aro, and some random small catfish. I will have a divider ready in case he is too small, but from DM's fish I expect him to catch up FAST!

Im doing a major (75% or so) w/c tonight then Im planning on bumping the temp up to 86, adding salt to a ratio of 1tbs/5 gallons of water. Anything else?

i would recommend only 25% water changes at a time, so it dosnt mess up ur bacteria. u can do a 25% every 4 hours (no more then that). deffinatly take out the redtail until they are about the same size. when i first introduced my armatus when he was smaller then my redtail, my redtail tried to kill him immediately. salt is a good idea, but dont add it all at once. i always spread it out over a 2 day period. and be careful an aro can eat a pretty big fish. keep us posted!!!

I dont believe that there is such thing as too big of water changes as I routinely do 50%+ water changes with no ill effects.

I am pretty sure Im going to have to separate them as it is better safe then sorry.

I wouldn't trust the arro or dat. I moved a 3in silver for punkin some of the payara. They can be some nasty lil bastids. Esp. at feeding time.....the thing just moved so fast that the payara would flip out.

My Armatus was cut loose from it's divider at about 3-3.5 inches. It schooled with my 6-7 in redtails with no problems. Also have a Rhaphiodon that's about 9 inches in there too...No problems. Maybe my redtails are a bunch of pusses though.....seams like when fish eat dead food they loose some of that "fire".

I'de seperate him. That way you can monitor its eating habbits and make sure it always has fish swimming with it to eat.

I agree on the waterchanges. I don't bother with anything less than 50%.

I'de have some melafix on hand.

They definetly grow fast. Mine was a lil bigger than a AA battery when I got it. It is now the same size as my redtails and allready causing problems. it will catch up to the other fish fast but it will take food to do it......being isolated you know exactly what it's eating and it will feel more confortable not having competition at first.

Be carefull with the divider......mine messed up the snout pretty bad.....if you have a smaller tank I'de use that before a divider.....if not at least wrap the divider with something.

never been into payara, how big do these armatus get? i might pick one up

I'de expect 30 inches in an ADEQUATE sized aquarium. Although they are rumored to push 4 foot in the wild.

I think it all depends on enviroment and food.

Thanks for the tips.

Ive got an extra 29 laying around, but I think Im going to go with a divider then fool with setting it up.

Im going to go ahead and get some feeders so I can have them gut loaded. Should I start with rosies or small platies? The platies are about .5" were as the rosies are 1-1.5".

DB, how much of growth are you getting monthly out of yours?
