Has anyone tried keeping a Largemouth Bass?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
has anyone ever kept a lmb with channel cats or oscars at all (in my case tiger oscar, only about 4" right now)

I believe the optimum temp diference between Bass and Oscars is too great.

Well...oscars and LMB live together in the wild in Florida so they can find a happy medium and basically that is what you would need to do. Something in the mid seventies would probably work, I have kept both species (not together) at this temp.

What is the water temp range in FL?

I'm not sure, I imagin it varies between seasons, places, depths etc. If it helps any fishbase.org reports the following for the two species.

Oscar- Between 71F and 77F
Largemouth Bass- Between 50F and 89F

Thats a bit odd though, because I would never keep a LMB in 89 degree water and I know oscars can survive in water warmer than 77F but that is what the site reports and it's a site I can come to trust very much.

I wouldn't keep a LMB in 89 deg water either.

I've kept a large mouth bass before. It was kept with a jaguar cichlid and other fishes. It was about 6 inches when I first had it. It died after three years and measured at about 13 inches. It was trained to take pellets.

I kept a 7.5 lb LMB in an oven for 15 minutes once... fed it butter and a little salt & pepper.
Got revenge for all the little fishies of the world ! ;) ( don't worry, I'm sure he would have wanted it that way... at least thats what it sounded like to me )
