I guess your seeing it as the other way around, I ment Cali fisherman going to MI to fish for pikes :D
Oh by the way, most of these man made lakes trout...their trout are mostly private stocked, which means they breed their own strain of trout. Like the infamous Donaldson Trout here in California, not sure if you guys have any strain of these...but its a hybrid of steelhead and rainbow. When they release it into the lake, most of them average 5lbs after 2-3 years of raising it only, they grow super fast and couple thousands stocked reaching 10lbs.
Or Lake Pyrimid, with private stock of cutthroat commonly reaching up to 12lbs etc...very famous trout fishery lake here have their own private stock trout that will do 10X better than the fish and game hatchery trout. Davis is on the low end, but it still considered as one of the most popular lake to take kids to go fishing for hatchery trout in California.
But if you want to talk about one of the most true all pure natural lake in California...Clear Lake, I believe this lake was known to be the nation oldest lake. But then this lake is so old that it contains such high mercury :D:D:D

Oh, and there's a river here south of CA that I believe they stock rainbows near the 20lbs zone. Good trout fishery for both lakes and a river that I know that stocks trout??? :D:popcorn:
that rainbow steelhead hybrid caught my attention lol. no MI LP dosnt get alot of pike fishermen we get alot of trout, salmon and giant walleye fisherman tho

Maybe if this doesn't work they can introduce some piranha so they'll eat the pike...lol

*sigh* what ever it is...you guys won't understand unless you fished Lake Davis and see for yourself, a cast...bam!!! a pike, a cast...bam!!! a pike, gets irritated after a while and they complain to the owner and the owner complain to the state. Well, probably have to wait for couple years when the pikes arrive back again, going to be a heck of another disaster.

These lakes just happen to be closer, but if your talking about diseases in hatchery trout compare to wild, it all depends how certain hatchery takes care of their species...
So? It doesnt bother me lots. I do understand, its just I dont understand why some ppl were whining about too many GOOD SIZED pikes especially 40 inch long 40 pounds pikes. We have some lakes that have too many pikes (most too small to eat) but we can manage that. So quit whining about it and get there fishing and kill these pikes, not complaining to the owner or the state.

ya....maybe it's because i'm from wisconsin...but i dont see how a lake full of good sized pike is bad for fishing? just like trout, many people pay good money for a guide to take them fishing for northern pike. i'd rather fight a 40" pike into the boat than a trout of any size, but then again, i will admit everyone has their own preference. they interviewed a business that sold bait and tackle...it's hard to listen to them complain...why didnt they just push pike fishing? stock some good bait and lures and make some money. not only that, the state estimates maybe 100,000 fish...put a price of $10 per head on any pike caught. that comes to a whaping 1 million dollars. far short of what they've spent. (i apologize if this has been brought up already but i didnt have the patients to read through all 14 pages)

Pike from Davis Lake made up of 10% of all fish populations of Davis lake while brown bullheads were made up of 83%, while the remaining 6% were bass, pumpkinseed, trouts and shiners....Pike tastes better than bass and hatchery trout anyways. I love when they dont mention why they have too many bullheads. They might cause trout populations declining as they do prey on trouts.

83% bullhead? impressive. agree, bull head would hurt the breeding population of trout....also....i would have to say that if 83% of the fish in the lake are bullhead, trout are probably not the staple diet of the pike. although farm raised trout might be an easy meal when they are first released. but, like feeders at the pet store....they learn to avoid the predator...be it a net or another fish.

LOL. Not sure where you get your info about 83% in Davis is filled with bullheads, I think that 83% is pikes instead my friend...

But how can you kill the pikes when they over populate you. If you want a clearer info why pikes is such an invasive species here in California, talk with the fisherman that fish at davis more than I do, or might as well e-mail to California Fish&Game Department and figure out why??? LOL(keep in mind that our environment can make any fish thrive no problem, the reason why California banned tons of aquarium species)...here's the link to the forum. http://fishsniffer.com/

I guess you dont accepted the facts that you have problems with bullheads. And for last time, the fisherman at Davis Lake need to grow up and accept the pikes.

at sports fisherman point a nice sized pike on flie compared to a trout seems alot more worthwhile. Youguys got lemons so make lemonade. 40 pound pike could create a new tourism market.
