HAS THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA LOST IT'S MIND

Instead of all that poison, they should just pay people to catch the pike. Someone mentioned that it cost over $300 per pike (amount spent/pike killed). They should set up a shack and pay people $5 per pike caught. It is cheaper than all that poison and the fisherman gets paid to do what they like.

My point exactly, plus it would give people a reason to visit CA. Like me, I've been next door and above it in Washington state, I've flown over CA, but never found a reason to go. But if someone told me there was a cash reward per fish caught at some lake, I would consider a trip. Heck I go to different places now to fish and knowone paying me a dime if anything it costing me a grand or too. Offer the handful people that I know that enjoy Pike fishing $5 per fish, and they'll clean out your lake for you.

Cut the head off, and throw it back into the lake to show them we mean business. LOL Sounds like something Schwarzenegger might say in Terminator lol

Yes, all fish will be killed, and probably most of the inverts, other verts, etc, and people will be affected by this poison in the water. (AGAIN) Thank GOD Florida isn't this stupid.
cutting the head and throwing back in is dumb as hell. the other pike will eat the dead one and get bigger.

You will never eliminate all the pike, down the road sometime somehow they will show up again and again be it man or nature, pike have almost covered the entire North American penninsula, just like lmb, perch and many of the sunfish family, then there is the non-natives that people throw away into the water system ,i once read that some fishermen cought a piranna while fishing for bass, if Cali is so worried about this issue then they need to start with the head (meaning that they need to ask for help from neighboring states) needless to say that the other states have thier own issues to deal with reguardless they are here to stay and there is nothing we can do about it ecept fish, fish, and fish and try to keep their population down far enough so that it won't hurt the remaining populations of other species.

Well there worried about the pike getting into the river system and destroying the salmon population.

Exactly.

I wouldn't be surprised if a fisherman put them in there, or a fish enthusiast. Either way, its a futile effort, im pretty sure people will put them back in, and in a matter of years all that time will be wasted.

They should just close up that lake and keep it separate from the other bodies of water.

yeah, california politicians did a good one this time! :screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy:

pikes and trouts co-habit in most eastern states, and never had a negative impact on the salmon/trout fisher! i've stated this over and over again.

all the suggestions of cutting head off, offering reward per fish, guided tour, anything is better than what we're doing here! i'm ashamed to live in california! and we place a ban on freshwater stingrays, like they're going to be put into lakes and reproduce madly in the cold weather and hard water, and cause a problem??? where is the logic?

California still has lakes? (just saying)

Just a few comments, I don't care to argue with the ignorant so I hope to clear up a few things

wait i didn't read the whole thing but,..
what's going to happen to the native bass, bluegill, trout population??

All bass and bluegill are introduced species in california, as well as the trout in davis lake

This is exactly why there are laws on people buying certain types of species in certain states.

the northern pike, muskellunge, one species of pickerel and the large mouth bass were introduced in 1891 by........ The US Fish and Game Commission. Early introductions failed to produce established populations. The difference between these sanctioned introductions and the unsactioned introduction at Davis lake is the location.

Davis lake is a reservoir in the high sierra-nevada mountain range and is a tributary to the san joaquin delta. The concern over the pike is that it has access to the ecosytem of the delta and the fear is (unsubstantiated fear in my opinion) that the pike are a threat to species of concern in the delta. This is also the reason why I dont think it is appropriate to compare floridas waterways to californias in this instance, the waterways in florida are at the end of the freshwater system, davis lake is at the beginning.

On a side note california is second only to florida in regards to introduced fish species with 50 distinct and established species. Third on the list is Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes with a total of 14 distinct and established introduced species, 4 of which are salmon and trout
