Please note that this isn't the result of fish keepers, the Pikes are there because the County and in corperation with the State put them there, this isn't some mindless Pike keeper that decided that I'm tired of the five fish I have and knowone else wants them, so I'll take them and dump them in the near by lake or stream and bingo they found each other and started to breed like wabbits. This was done by biologist and the Parks and Fish & Wildlife, a half to a dozen fish in a body of water holding Hundred of Millions of gallons of water and other predatory Fish, does not make for perfect breeding grounds to start establishing another species.

There are a couple problems with this theory:
1) Where would a biologist get pikes in a state where it's illegal to have them?
2) Why would a BIOLOGIST of all people put Pikes in a lake, especially knowing how much biologoists know?
3) Even if a biologist did do it, how would you know? I mean, would you take responsibility for millions of dollars of repairs? I doubt it.
4) Why would the county and state do it? There is no reason, especially seeing their past attempts to fix pike-infested areas?

FAIL

All I'm saying is that it would take more than even a pool full of Pikes to infest Lake Davis to this extent. Someone else stated that they where placed there by the state back in the 1800's. I just think that it is totally INSANE to consider poisioning the entire watershed, to kill off one species of fish in order to stock another species of fish. Not to mention they have already spent Millions of Dollars on this idea already, and the fish are still there.

It totally amazes me how we here in the northern part of the country can fish a species to the brink. Where there are regulations that state size, time of year and bag limits for these same fish in the Great Lakes. But at this Davis Lake they can't seems to put a dent in the population even if they use Explosives or Electrocutions or No bag limit, Size limit or No closed seasons. It's just amazing, what we humans will do to get rid of something we've started in the first place.

And there's NO way anyone going to convince me that these fish became established to the point that they are from a handful of Monster Fish Collectors dumping there stock in a lake, unless there stock was in the thousands. But thats just my opion.

And oh yeah, by the way biologist can easily obtain permits to import protected or endangered species alot easier than you or I. I have friends that used to worked for the Museum of Natural History, that can tell you stories of animals they brought in to this country without permits. And the only thing they worried about was, customs of the country they were in. Once they they where on US soil, or being inspected by US customs they didn't give a dam.

yes it was and some monster bass come out of that body of water. ive always wanted to go fishing out there

Well its goes to show you how waste full our counrty is. Instead of evaluating the problem and creating a logical solution let find a quick way to solve it with a total disreguard of the aftermath. Its just like when ur driving down the street or hwy and see 12 workers watch 2 guys dig a whole, and you hear of a bidget crisis and jobs getting cut. Its not the workers fault for slackin off, its the lack of over sight and examination of problems.
So they think the pike might get into the water ways and kill more idea fish in cali. Where do you think the poison is gonna go? Why dont they go spray the chemical every where that the common carp has inhabited too. Supposedly they have a devistating impact on all ecosystems they have inhabited too.
They should have encouraged a fish derby to catch not the biggest fish but the most fish. The winner will only win the contest by the total weight of the fish.
Lastly what fish is truly native to california any way. The rainbow trout isn't and most stocked bass aren't.

wow! Why dont they hold a Pike fishoff? like bassmasters whoever catches say 100lbs of pike in 3 days gets however much $$$. Not only does the posion kill fish and aquatic life, it kils birds, and mammals that EAT the dead poisoned fish. and that stuff could seep through the earth and cause even more problems! Maybe Arnold should learn some more peaceful alternatives

hmm we've all seen the effects of largies feed on trout lets see what happens to pike :nilly:

WOW...I can't even begin to explain how mind-boggingly WRONG everything in the OP is. I mean, its a stupid idea to get ride of the pike in the first place for SOOO may reasons, and like someone else said, if they must do it, why not drain the lake?

So what will hapen if someone just re-introduces the pike after they restock it?

Won't the rotenone kill ALL of the fish?
Same stuff they used in Crofton to kill of the Channa Argus. It chokes out all the fish, but dissolves in a month or so and the lake can be re-stocked.
